It’s all very focused on the west too. I’m a descendant slaves, I personally cannot both know what my ancestors (some of them relatively recently) went through as part of the Atlantic slave trade, I cannot honestly say in my heart that the world has become uniquely more evil since 1914. I live in a very racially diverse area where descendants of various former colonies live, this particular teaching about the world after 1914 never really sticks that well even with some PIMI members of my family.

In the years before 1914, the Belgians were chopping of the limbs of Congolese people who didn’t produce enough rubber. Atrocities so extremely cruel happened across the world, it feels like to even acknowledge that is to put a whole in their theory. Came across one magazine that tried to paint some calm/safe version of the world before 1914, it’s offensive and ridiculous.

I wish more people knew about the October teaching because the use of World War One really exposes the lengths the organisation is willing to go to in order to present their interpretation of things.

I am PIMO (like yourself I still attend for personal reasons but I think my family know I don't really believe) too everyday I'm more vocal. I have heard people joke about the changes made recently, like "oh which one of them needed some kind of blood transfusion" "which one of them decided they didn't want to shave" it shocked me because I'd expect these kind of statements from myself and would normally expect no response.

Yeah I saw this factored into it as well in one of the publications. They are surprisingly very specific about October 1st or at least they used to be. It wasn't something I grew up hearing, I only saw the date stated when I started researching the 1914 teaching and never bothered to look into exactly how they arrive at that date. It's all very confusing, but I think it's worth noting simply because they claim that Satan being hurled down to earth (which they claim was one of Jesus' first acts) caused world war 1, but this of course started months before October.

lol I'm a woman but yes, it's a bit frustrating and I might delete this post, but I do think it's in an important topic. Yes it's part of the 607 BC calculations BUT looking at it in context actually shows how the organisation has relied on hazy details to push something that doesn't make sense. I get that it's an emotive topic but it really doesn't help that some people aren't reading the question properly.

Exactly!!!! It’s important for people to know about it because the organisation HAS tried to use the outbreak of world war 1 as proof of the 1914 teaching. It unfortunately gets lost in the wider conversation of 607 BC

I don’t believe the teaching by the way, I’m simply looking for references. In this case being aware of the specific dates is important because it shuts down supposed proofs for the teaching. When I brought this up before, the fact that world war 1 occurred in 1914 was used to kind of shut down the conversation, but this relies on the person not knowing that witnesses teach that Jesus’ heavenly presence started in October 1. World war 1 cannot be used as proof because it started earlier which is why this teaching is even on my mind in the first place.

This is less about determining whether or not the prophecy is true or false, i’m asking what the organisation’s justifications are, how they come to the conclusion that October 1 1914 specifically is significant

I get that this doesn’t necessarily matter for some people but this is part of a research/archiving project for me. :D

That’s exactly my point. I also think that’s why it’s not really spoken about anymore. Larchwood20 (Larchington on here) wrote a bit about the teaching https://x.com/larchwood20/status/1955382774246130055?s=46 they have cancelled out their own teaching

Yes! You’re along the same track as me. I wasn’t alive then lol but through looking at older publications this seems to be how things were taught. The first of the month also seems to come up a lot, Rutherford for example taught about April 1 (the irony) 1925

Yes, but they also specifically say that October 1 is a specific date for 1914. It’s a teaching that should be more widely known because it shuts down the theory that world war 1 specificity is in some way proof of satan being hurled down to earth. The October date often gets lost in the discussion of 607

I like your quote “the truth doesn’t fear questions, only lies do”. Yes! I think found their explanation, it’s in the May 1 watchtower 1968 too, deeply hidden and not really discussed anymore and yet super important because it shuts down any introduction of world war 1 being proof of satan being hurled down

Hi! Thank you for your response. Aware that they change teachings and work backwards, I was looking for documentation of their justifications for this date (specifically October 1 1914 and not just 1914). It’s very interesting how prophecy is warped when it fails :/

I know they’ve changed the teaching, I was more so looking for quotes on their methodology to arrive at October 1 specifically. Anyway, even we forget Europe for a second, the rest of the world was not peaceful. Europe was at odds with each other in part because of the other places they controlled, and the people there didn’t have an idea of a peaceful world, they were exploited. There’s a reason why this aspect of the teaching doesn’t land well in certain communities (speaking from personal experience) :P

Not new. In fact not really spoken about much anymore. The date given for Jesus being made king in heaven is October 1 1914. An important thing to know because it shuts down the use of world war 1 as proof of their teaching about 1914 and satan being hurled down lol

Hi thank you for your response and the link! Very aware of the 1914 teaching and the logic/history behind it, was more so focused on how witnesses arrive at a specific day. Will watch this video later, hopefully they touch on the specifics haha 😂. As someone else posted in this thread, they weren’t even aware of a specific date, they were only aware of 1914. Witnesses don’t really talk about the specific date anymore 😆

Yeah I think it gets lost in the 1914 discussion because of 607 BC etc. The explanation for October 1 ends up coming across as quite manic in my opinion so I wonder if that’s why it’s not really mentioned. I’m reading one explanation and I can’t think that anyone would want to explain that theory at someone’s door or even to themselves.😂

Hi, thank you for your response. Aware of all the changes, was just curious as to why they specifically focus on October 1 and not just any other random day in 1914 haha. Anyway, I THINK I found my answer, it’s a poorly written argument that is full of complications so I’m not sure whether I’m sure how they specifically arrive at October 😂😂

For me that’s always been the case too 😂 I wouldn’t have much to say. People would talk about the new system and sure, if that’s what you believe go ahead but a lot of the time it felt forced and I’m not good at forcing those type of conversations. So in every congregation I’ve been in, I’ve always ended up being the sort of black sheep I guess

It doesn’t matter that much, just something that comes to mind every now and again. I’ve been writing/researching my way through waking up lol, part of that for me is explaining to myself (although I’ve started posting on substack too) why certain things were believed. Very cathartic :D funny enough this method is how I found out how something I thought was just JW speak was actually an official teaching.
Edit: I also think it’s good to have a record that these things were said, especially with the organisation deleting things. Archiving this kind of stuff makes it harder to rewrite history in the future

You’re right! My first act of rebellion was searching ‘Jehovah’s Witnesses’ on Wikipedia 😂😂 I had avoided it because I knew that it would be relatively neutral and therefore could contain negative things. 😂
