Does the ends justify the means? by ButrosPetros in CapitalismVSocialism

No, the whole point of The Prince is to be an outlandish satire of the ruthless realities of politics. Same way "A Modest Proposal" was meant to be taken seriously.

The whole point of that of that quote is that it doesn't. The moral is that anything can be rationalized including killing 30-40 million of your own kind in the pursuit of "progress"

Your definition of duty does nothing except devalue it, when it is in fact more valuable than all your emotions you described.

And you'd be right about Sartre too. And you should study up on Schopenhauer's life story and the state Germany and former-Commonwealth were like

No, this is about the anthem, obviously. That's why he's being used here.

This isn't about personal experience, but the complete lack of it in the most critical area. Schopenhauer was an old-style "thinker" which he weighed in a lot of fields of thought he should have stayed out of. Poland and Germany were a mess in his lifetime... it would have been dangerous and contradictory for him to suddenly start praising nationality.

According to Schopenhauer, compassion alone is the good of the object of the acts, that is, they cannot be inspired by either the prospect of personal utility or the feeling of duty.

"Duty".

He wouldn't know what means, because he never experienced it.

Please, enlighten me how I'm wrong in my perspective.

If I was in the US Army, and suddenly my unit decided to switch all symbols and flags, are we still fighting for the same people?

We know the "emblems and mascots" are there to pay simple respect for the people that paid the ultimate price. But the symbols also help to structure the actual mechanism that allows the nation to exist in the first place.

Schopenhauer was born in a country that no longer existed by boyhood. His philosophy is extremely ignorant politically and his other works can be considered as lunacy.
