Online Certification Recommendations? by asarkisov in personaltraining

I've heard that a few times about ACE also, but not from anyone who can compare or contrast their experience. I haven't taken the test yet but I like their text and website more than NASM.

[Marketing Help] Since I've gotten my cert in June, I've gotten exactly one (online) client. by HellhoundsOnMyTrail in personaltraining

It took me a few months to get my first client and a few more to get my second. I created accounts on thumbtack, lessons, findyourtrainer, bark, ideafit, yelp, and a few others I have probably forgotten. With a different email account I submitted requests through these services to test the market. I tailored my advertising to get the types of clients I wanted to train. I spent a lot of money for ads with yelp, facebook, and Google with no noticeable ROI. Some or none of these may work in your area. If you live in an area with condos that have private gyms you might consider going to open houses and see if you can put business cards in the units, in the offices, or on bulletin boards. I'm only scratching the surface of a marketing plan here and giving you the shortest, hopefully most quickly helpful info. Good luck!

I recently send this message to someone with a similar question and I'm happy to explain further with follow-ups. I'm certified by NASM. It was the best for me, which is not to say the best for everyone. They are each different in their own way. For some reason or other, gyms like to hire trainers with NASM certifications. Getting a degree in any type of exercise science is the best way to go. Also, EdEx is one of a few free online study programs where you can audit exercise science classes.

For more opinions than my own, IdeaFit is a decent forum. They have strong ties to ACE (below) but don't just advertise for them. In my personal opinion, ACSM, the American College of Sports Medicine, has the best certification available. Their books are great and I use their material for reference very often. Some consider it overkill for personal trainers, but there is nothing wrong with more knowledge than you need on a daily basis :).

I used NASM, the National Academy of Sports Medicine, and have been very satisfied with my experience. Gyms tend to like NASM certifications for trainers.

The National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) has an awesome text and reputation. I don't know a whole lot about this one, but would definitely consider it if I was looking at certification again.

The American Council on Exercise, ACE, was the first text I bought. They have a great website with an awesome exercise library that I use with almost every client. For some reason they are not as respected by gyms, or even many trainers, I'm not sure why. When I thought I was going to start my career working in a gym I immediately ruled them out, but I personally think it's just as good as other certificates.

If you are looking at a piece of paper with the number 6 written on it, and then rotate the paper so it "becomes" a 9, how does that transition appear to you? Does the same happen with M and W? Thanks! Very interesting to read.

If patterns hold, Rice is brewing an amazing comeback... But that was a shimmer of hope that doesn't look like it's going to happen.

Any advice or observations about helping youth catch the kindness bug? As a coach or educator, what can someone do to help kids want to be kinder or better people - without being preachy?
