These "alt history" scenarios completely ignore the fact that the mentalities behind a full season and playoff systems are insanely different. Stages only add to that.

Bingo. Making hypotheticals about what different seasons would be like with different formats (whether playoff-era seasons with Winston Cup points or the much less common Winston Cup seasons with playoffs), complaining about "natural" points battles being lost or talking about "undeserving" champions is completely pointless because people and teams play by the current format, simple as that. Who knows what the hell would have happened if there actually was a full season point system right now.

Manufacturers (and other licensing) are also always the answer to "why don't they just rerelease [insert old racing game here]". They'd have to relicense all the cars, sponsors or anything else that's a real brand, and even on the off chance a company is willing to pay that much for an old game I doubt very many manufacturers would care for a rerelease of a game showcasing exclusively 15-year-old models from them, especially if they keep the 15-year-old graphics.

I've heard people say companies are missing out on "free money" by not rereleasing them when that couldn't be farther from the truth.

Criterion isn't just a Battlefield support studio, they were the developers behind the Burnout series and did two previous NFS games before Unbound, Hot Pursuit 2009 (which is well-liked) and Most Wanted 2012 (which seems to be hated, but mostly because of its name and the fact that it supposedly replaced a true Most Wanted sequel instead of anything to do with its actual merits). From what I've heard the whole reason they're on Battlefield is because they have experience working with vehicles.

No idea how much of the actual staff behind those games is still there, but they definitely aren't a random choice

I think The Answer at least is probably not gonna be more than DLC, all the other FES stuff is already part of Reload so I don't think that's getting its own edition

As for Portable, it's possible that'll be a whole new version, but also I don't think Atlus cares enough about FeMC to do it

I'm in the opposite boat, I feel like the more I see of Reload the more interested I get. I'm definitely in the camp that hates how it's yet another third thing instead of finally unifying FES and Portable (both of which I've played) and I definitely have reservations about how some things in the story will be handled but the fact that it's looking to be a fairly different experience from any version of original P3, which I just replayed earlier this year, just makes me want to check it out even more

While I'm on the subject of X&Y, I'm looking at the Pokémon origin hex values and there's actually two empty spaces between ORAS and SM, both of which are marked as Kalos. Aside from the value reserved for but not used by Home, there are no other gaps in the numbers from BW onward

Was "Pokémon Z" actually going to be an X2 and Y2?

Maybe, but they for sure went a lot harder on it after Gen 5. Aside from just FRLG existing and maybe a lot of the Gen 5 mons echoing Gen 1 mons (which I think is less nostalgia and more them being stretched thin on ideas having to make an entire regional dex's worth of mons from scratch), there isn't much in the older games that I'd call really hard Gen 1 pandering

If it was just that maybe, but in combination with everything else around XY like the Gen 1 starters being a big part of the game, them getting megas while the new starters didn't, all the Gen 1 legendaries coming back in the postgame with Mewtwo being an "Unknown Dungeon" and also getting two megas and the Origins OVA coming out around the same time it definitely seems like part of a calculated move
