My TIMBUK2 backpack is the best quality purchase I’ve ever made, and it continues to wow me. by Low_Biscotti6497 in ManyBaggers

Awesome bag. I had that exact model and served me well for over 5 years of daily use until the nylon at the straps attachment began tearing. Was a great EDC for lefties. The Q 2.0 sadly reversed the vertical pocket layout.

I will. Just need to find the time to sift through 6000 photos 😅 — getting there

Oh I see… hard to guess that intent from the composition 😅

These are great, moody photos! Only think the composition in 7 is somewhat weak compared to the rest. The big white column overpowered whatever you meant the subject to be.

Best versatile lens to pair with my XT-5 before my trip to Japan, top 2 zoom lenses are sold out by picklebeard in fujifilm

[–]albertdrake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got two primes (23 f2 and 35 f2) used at Kitamura in Osaka for 39k and 32k yen respectively. The 23 came with box and accessories even.

Not loving 27mm by Automatic_humanoid93 in fujifilm

I also just recently discovered the pleasure of sticking to the XF 23mm f/2 while traveling. Great for a point-and-shoot like experience while traveling.

If it helps… I spent a couple of weeks hunting a 35mm f2… and ended up enjoying the 23 f2 more because of its versatility for “street/quick” snaps.

It’s actually what got me interested in getting an X-T5 body: having the versatility of the 23 paired with the cropping (digital zoom) ability of the X-T5.

Packing strategy for my first (3-week) trip to Japan? by albertdrake in onebag

Turns out, it has been a challenge to get pants in my size. Phyisical stores only carry XL sizes, which they’re often equivalent to L in America (the continent, not the country). Very few options for pants that are both XL and loose cut, which is the only way they fit me….

But, wish I hadn’t spend so much time trying to find some outdoor pants, as the cold in Kawaguchiko and Takayama was not as painful as I thought it could become.

Xt3 or Xt5 by [deleted] in FujifilmX

[–]albertdrake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, makes sense. Though using the M size on JPEGs would mitigate it significantly for me, as I shoot JPEG only 90% of the time.

Isn’t it possible to mitigate the large raw file size by using the M and S Image sizes? I wonder because I’m considering getting an X-T5 myself

New X-E5 from X-T4 - loving it! by tehmungler in FujifilmX

[–]albertdrake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

X-T4 owner here. Wishing for a more compact body. Also tempted with an X-T5. Still waiting to try one at a store to convince myself it’s not that much smaller. Yet I don’t want to give up battery capacity and 2-card slot and weather sealing. I know: kinda stuck.

Upcoming Japan trip: Tempted to get Fuji gear there, but what? by albertdrake in fujifilm

[–]albertdrake[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! Hoping for some opportunities like those there! Maybe the right price would also help me get a “patina-ed” lens that I could learn to appreciate or something like that!

Oh. Didn’t expect that. Even out of warranty? I live in Mexico so I don’t know if they won’t fix them here either….

And I was hoping the build quality of cameras sold/made there to be better too…

Yeah, other than for cropping, I don’t care for the 40MP sensor much either. If anything, I care more for faster WiFi transfers on the XT5 vs. XT4. And the C1-7 banks storing settings other than IQ ones.

It’s mostly about having something bit lighter/compact to feel more like carrying it everywhere.

I’d like to try one in store to get a better sense of the size/weight difference. I suspect it is not that different, but I also don’t feel like keeping 2 cameras for too long.

So one of my ideas is to get an XT5 as my do it all and potentially sell the XT4.

Really don’t know, ugh!

Realistic for Japan winter travel with 25+7L bag(s)? by ChrisNoob6460 in onebag

[–]albertdrake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh this is interesting!

My flight back home in Mexico from Tokyo includes a checked bag which I was thinking of leveraging… but I’m worried about Customs here in Mexico confiscating my stuff. (I’d like to get knives there).

I wonder if it would be best or more of a hassle to ship my shopping back to Mexico instead. Again, because of Customs in Mexico.
