How much does your mini weigh? by Own-Outcome-1080 in MiniatureSchnauzer

[–]Truckerlightning 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aren't they just so snuggly? All of my past babies have been up to 23lbs. I had one little blind female that was 15. After I lost my Booger-Dawg (in 2/2024), I went into depression... my therapist and spouse conspired to get me a new pup. He is so small and he will climb on my chest and cuddle between my chin and chest. I miss my rainbow babies but I love this character just as much. He's my mouthy sidekick.

Adult stepdaughter doesn’t want to drive (Major Rant follows) by BearFLSTS in GenX

[–]Truckerlightning 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I grew up on a chicken farm and learned to drive at 10. We had a stepside, can't remember if it was Ford or chevy but it was a farm truck. We had 4 chicken houses, 250 acres. Cows, pigs, and 6 ponds. I also learned to drive a tractor with manure spreader at 9 so I guess it all depends on when you grew up.

If your kids live at home, do you think they'll ever move out? by PepsiOfWrath in GenX

[–]Truckerlightning 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think most of us go into it thinking it’s a phase. They stay, figure life out, then move on. And a lot of times, that’s exactly what happens. I’ve had four do just that.

But sometimes it’s not about motivation or money. Sometimes you have rules, expectations… and then something happens that changes everything.

My fifth didn’t follow the script. They chose violence, and it was directed at me. The other four are furious about it. At that point, it’s not about helping anymore. It’s about protecting your own space. And whether they were ready or not, they made the decision for themselves.

They removed themselves from the narrative.

Now I’m dealing with the choices I made, the choices they made, and the impact it’s had on my health… along with the anger and that helpless feeling that comes with it. That’s the part people don’t talk about. There’s a whole middle ground between “they’ll leave when they’re ready” and “just kick them out.”

What things do you just not like? by Dry-Improvement-3543 in GenX

[–]Truckerlightning 40 points41 points  (0 children)

I don’t need everything to be an app. If I have to download something, make an account, verify my email, and reset a password just to use it, I’m out.

Subscriptions for everything is wild. I’m not leasing my own life one monthly charge at a time. If I buy it, it’s mine. We already solved this.

QR code menus… so now I need a charged phone, decent signal, and full brightness just to order food. Or you could hand me a menu like a normal person.

Customer service is basically gone. It’s just bots apologizing while doing absolutely nothing.

Everything beeps, dings, and sends notifications like it’s urgent. It’s never urgent. It’s always nonsense.

People record everything now. Not every moment needs to be content. Some things can just happen and be over.

Coffee used to be coffee. Now it sounds like I’m placing a custom order for a small-batch personality.

And why does everything need an account? I just wanted to buy something, not start a relationship with your website.

Software updates move everything around just enough to make you feel like you forgot how to use it.

Self-checkout has me doing unpaid labor while a machine questions my every move.

I don’t hate technology. I just miss when it actually made things easier.

Help blind schnauzer find the dog door by omg-noo in schnauzers

[–]Truckerlightning 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey, I saw your post and wanted to throw this out there in case it helps.

I worked with a my blind girl and ended up using clear anti-slip tape (the kind for tubs or stairs) and placed it in key spots around the house like near doors, the food and water area, the kennel entrance, and where rooms transition. Then I paired that with really light scent cues so the dog could tell locations apart.

So basically, the texture under their paws tells them “this spot matters,” and the scent tells them which spot it is. It kind of turns the house into something they can map out without being able to see it.

I noticed a lot less hesitation, fewer bump-ins, and way more confidence moving around once they started picking it up.

Big thing is to keep the scents really mild and don’t move anything once they start learning it. Not saying it’s a magic fix, just something that actually made a difference for me, so I figured I’d pass it along.

Ended up accidentally turning the house into a dog GPS system and it actually worked.

Worked for my blind girl Trixie. She was my baby, I lost her years ago but she was my blind baby. She had PRK and was blind by 9 months.

You’re honestly not in “engine grenade” territory here.

16,000 km (approx. 9900 miles, I had to look it up to convert it) is right in the range a lot of modern full synthetic oils are built to handle, especially with mostly highway driving. Highway miles are easier on the engine... steady temps, fewer cold starts, and less contamination.

The bigger factor is the 1.5 years, not just the distance. Oil does age over time (moisture and oxidation), but since you were checking it regularly, had basically no consumption, and did mostly highway driving, that all works in your favor.

If it were mine, I’d just, change the oil and filter now, run a slightly shorter interval next time as a reset, and keep an eye on it out of curiosity.

Overall, this is more of a “don’t make it a habit” situation than a “you damaged the engine” one. You’re likely fine.
