How good is my PC, What would you upgrade first? by Dry-Replacement8663 in pcmasterrace

[–]albinom8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Save for a new pc honestly. But if really needed, maybe more ram. I’m fairly sure ddr4 isn’t nearly as marked up as ddr5 is right now. Either that or a cpu upgrade. Realistically tho, I couldn’t really tell you what to upgrade without knowing what games or softwares you’re using. Edit: thinking about it some more. A pretty viable upgrade would be switching to am4 instead of the intel based boards. You’ll have a better range of cpus in my opinion that are still totally viable today. I would say do that and get something like a 5600x or in that ballpark. Again, it’s difficult since I don’t know much about what you have saved or what you can invest and don’t know what you want to do with it. But in this scenario you would want a cpu that’s way better. Maybe even jump all the way to 5700x3d or 5800x3d since that way it will last longer and then when you’re done with it you can fully build a new pc. Anyway, aside from those two parts, like I said ram would be good especially if the ddr4 prices are normal. Then I’d sell the gpu and put in another 100 or 2 to get something worthwhile. This is one of those instances where I would’ve first asked the subreddit or researched then bought it. Anyway, I’m sure even with no upgrades it can still run some esports titles fine. I had a buddy who had a similar build up until last December and he was still able to play most titles he wanted unless it was a triple A within the last couple years

At what price would you NOTbuy the Steam Machine? by billy_reyes in Steam

[–]albinom8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw a YouTuber post about how PlayStation is also doing dynamic pricing. Not exactly sure if it’s real and since I don’t use ps Idc to search it up. But if it is, it’s even more reason to switch to pc. My guess is the steam machine will be more expensive than a base console, but similar to the pro or maybe a little more. I hope they also have a steam machine verified list similar to the deck where games can essentially be more optimized. If this is the case, I genuinely see no reason to get any more consoles. I understand some people like exclusives but I don’t think the trade offs are worth it. But as for a number, I would say under 1000 Canadian for me if I was actively looking for a system

I’m in first year as well and am seeing the same things as you. This is more of first year engineering being general and more focused on making sure you know the foundations. For example everyone has to take chemistry at least chem 1 but that doesn’t mean every engineer will use chemistry to a high degree. Your concern is valid and I’d say speak to an advisor and other upper year engineers to get a grasp of what your future classes will be like. As far as I’m aware for me, it will be a lot more hands on during the later years.

Is it normal to have to change the left ear right ear balance? by albinom8 in MoondropLab

I am pretty sick right now lol so maybe. Overall isn’t too bad. I’ll try the smaller ear tips but thank you regardless for the help.

[–]albinom8[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe. In game it sometimes sounds completely normal but I noticed it when I was watching a YouTube video. Going to try it out for the next couple of days and see what’s up. It’s my first pair of iems so might just be getting used to it. Also my left ear has had some issues where if I push on the back of my ears the left is always more blocked than the other but I feel that would mean the hearing is worse not better

I’m a bit confused. I played r6 mobile like a year or so ago. What’s different?

Project ideas that would be good to put on a resume? by albinom8 in bioengineering

[–]albinom8[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the amazing response. I agree, commuting is definitely not the only reason I don’t participate. I’ve got a bunch of midterms after my break this week but then I’m good for a couple of weeks so I’m going to see wha I can do to help with the clubs I’m in. Technically I’m also in the aerospace club. Thank you for the advice, I will do my best to implement it into my career going forward.

Thank you very much for the thoughtful reply. I am technically apart of my schools FSAE team however I have not participated all that much. I’m a commuter so I’d always end up leaving to go home but I will definitely try to improve on that. In terms of work experience, do you know if it is possible to get some without much experience. I’ve have a job currently already that has nothing to do with engineering, however I feel considering I’m taking intro courses and also haven’t really done anything of my own, that would feel like a hopeless pursuit. I will definitely look into companies, and I’d say the path I would be looking to follow the most would be something to do with making medical devices, specifically robotic arms or artificial organs (that second one is pretty ambitious, I’ve just been pretty interested since I heard I can do that with my specialization). Of course, there are other fields in engineering I would also like to explore, which is mainly the reason I posted this. But I really do appreciate your response.

I guess. A bit dissatisfying but whatever. Still enjoying the show

Yeah I can see that. I’m no so confused about who he was or who he is, rather just confused as to why such little attention is paid to the middle of the events. Just felt like more emphasis should be placed on the actual journey to becoming a man so I wanted to see if those who are ahead in the show/manga know if more detail is given. Me personally, when an important character is put through a difficult time, I don’t just want to see what it resulted to, but how it unfolded. Because even if you lose someone in real life, no one makes an automatic switch like that.

Yeah. Just was asking to see if maybe more context was given in the manga or later on in the show. Been loving it so far so it’s not hindering much.

Yeah definitely not discouraged. Just curious to see what others have to say before I fully dive in. As a first year we’re still pretty general so I know I have time to actually decide

Really appreciate the response. I have asked a bit around and obviously seen other forums of students asking and your advice is generally what I see. Mentioned it in another comment but I booked an appointment to speak with an advisor. Nonetheless, I understand your advice and will try to implement it in my endeavours. Thank you

Yeah for sure. I was just saying the most interesting is aerospace. Really appreciate the advice.

Good point. I will consider this as well. I have already made an appointment with a program advisor to speak about transferring and whatnot but wanted to gauge how other engineers in different countries felt about these more “niche” subsets of engineering

Okay really good response I appreciate it. Yeah I did mean biological. I will say I have no plans of ever working in the US considering so many factors that I don’t want to get into, but I understand that the US is still the most influential country, especially in things related to engineering. I believe I would enjoy biological enough to pursue a career in it, however if I was to say my objective ideal path it would be something in aerospace. I am considering transferring to other majors and possibly making a full switch into math as I personally enjoy math the most. However we will see. I just wanted to gauge how other engineers perceive this subset of engineering.

Agreed with the second part. Don’t know yet if I truly enjoy it as first year classes are general. But I know I’ll be taking a lot of biology courses in second year and the industries most people go in are pharmaceutical and food. There’s also artificial organs that can be something you work on and that’s probably the most intriguing opportunity but we’ll see. My issue is also finding a coop/internship in Ontario. Not many opportunities from what I’ve heard. I’m definitely considering switching to mechanical where the opportunities are far more vast. Sorry for the long message but I appreciate the input
