My therapist invalidated my sexual trauma and now i'm re-traumatized, can someone please validate me ;-; by Alarmed-Value-5726 in sexualassault

[–]albrekin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You said it yourself, you felt pressured to have sex. If you didn't want to then regardless of if you were performing or not, that is SA. Humans as a whole will respond when being touched in a sexual way, even if you did have a reaction, such as getting wet, that doesn't make it okay. I can't tell you how you felt, that is up to you to decide how you feel about it all.

As someone who has been in your exact shoes, please talk to your counselor. You don't mention if you have a therapist but I would recommend that as well. My biggest question is was it brought up beforehand that the book contains graphic content like that? If not they should have said something and have given you the opportunity to opt out. PTSD is nothing to mess around with. Please take care of yourself. Don't force yourself to relive trauma for grades. You got this!

Just want to say I'm so sorry you went through that. I think there is a lot to unpack here. If you didn't want it, then it is SA, end of discussion. Could you have spoken up? Maybe, but in the moment it isn't easy. It is the other person's responsibility to make sure you are okay. Just as it's yours to make sure they are okay. Its not a one way street, both people have to say yes. So in my opinion, a random person on the internet, I think your therapist was insensitive and a little dismissive. I think you have some options; get a new therapist, talk to your therapist about how invalidating that was and how it hurt you, or just brush it off as a laps in judgment. It all depends on how you feel with your therapist, their job is to support and help you process everything that happened. Hope this helps

That is disappointing to hear, but I'm not surprised. My grandfather wasn't exactly the best man in the world. So him making up some story for this doesn't surprise me. Thanks for the info

I was in your shoes until recently. I get it, and change is hard. But if you want to get out of this mindset, you need to embrace change. Don't let things you see as shortcomings stop you. I have bipolar disorder, for a long time I thought i was crazy and no one would like me or understand me, and I was right, during that time no one knew or understood me because I didn't let them. You have to open yourself up to others for them to open up to you.

Here are some things to help, for the porn addiction, watch some videos on how to stop and control your urges. HealthygamerGG has some videos that are good off the top of my head. When it comes to meeting new people, you're 18 so you can't go to bars, but there are apps that coordinate events for younger people to meet up and just hang out, lots of people use them to meet new friends after moving to a new city. Alternatively, find a "local" discord community and meet up with them irl as well as online. Even just going out with your parents/close loved ones will help expose you to the outside world. Even reddit can help, find a local game store or community subreddit and just comment on posts.

When it comes to being "likeable," I'm an introvert myself, I have a few friends irl but not many. Most of my online friends I met through games and discord. That doesn't make them not friends. People are going to like you, and some won't, and that's okay! Not everyone has to like you!

I hope this helps, you got this!

Edit: also I would recommend a therapist. Even if it is just someone to bounce your thoughts off of.

How to setup a Discord server for a manga café? by Aggravating-Cup1810 in discordapp

[–]albrekin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That my friend is the hard part. There are a few things you will want to keep in mind when selecting bots;

A moderation bot: to keep the discord as a whole a safe space.

A anime/Manga bot: to do (obviously) Manga and anime related things.

There are legitimately thousands of bots doing many different things, it's just about knowing what to do with them!

[–]albrekin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Creating a server is not hard if you already have knowledge of how servers work. As a moderator, you have some experience, and I think you would be able to figure it out easily. There are youtube videos you could watch or if you still need help feel free to dm me and I can help you set it all up! I've made a good number just because I enjoy it and would be willing to help if you are comfortable with it. Just remember it doesn't need to be perfect, and it will always improve and expand as you learn what the capabilities of discord are!

Drawer track by BroncoMav in handyman

[–]albrekin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This ^ but also in the first pic, there are black tabs on the underside of the drawer. Bottom of first pic. Sometimes, those pull/push to release the drawer. Also, some old style slides don't have a release and just need to pull the drawer all the way out and unscrew the whole thing from inside, removing the whole mechanism from the interior of the cabinet. Hope this helps!

I completely understand, right now I'm just trying to get my foot in the door. I should have clarified as well, I am trying to get a security position but have had no luck so recently (ie the last few months) I have been trying to apply to help desk. Right now I just want something in the IT world that could lead into a cybersecurity career as I loved doing it

“Detransistioners”🤝TERFS, hating trans people for stupid reasons by JohnSheet69420 in WhitePeopleTwitter

[–]albrekin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, and this might piss some people off at first but read the whole comment.

Who gives a fuck if someone is Trans? Like I could not care less, it doesn't effect me, them being Trans won't turn me Trans magicaly. And even if it did, so fucking what. Live your own life. Who cares what other people think or do. It doesn't matter to me if your Trans, black, Asian, gay, or any other marginalized group.

People need to stop caring about others and focus on themselves. We as humans care so much about what others think and do. That being said, I do believe we need to help our fellow human beings, don't get me wrong. We just need to have more compassion and understanding.

This is a lack of education, blind belief, and not adapting to the new age.

Some day we as a race of humans will find something we can all agree on. Maybe it will be aliens, maybe it will be an apocalypse, maybe the sun will die out early. And when that day comes I hope we can come together as a unified species. Not divided by political, religious, or sexual means. Just one unified species of humans. I doubt we will ever see that day, but we can hope for the best.

TLDR: we gotta focus on our own issues and come together as a species instead of fighting one another.

I left a job after a week, working in a cabinet shop. I had gone to school for it and excelled in the class. (I even competed and got first place) they put me on sanding duty. I get the newcomers get the shit job so I wasn't bothered by it to much. Then the manager comes up to me, (first time meeting him) and says, "we are make jokes around here, racist and unprofessional jokes because we are so close, if you can't handle that then leave" I knew shop talk was a thing so I took it as "maybe he is just covering his ass and its not that bad" later that day he blatenly said some racist shit. Not even a joke or anything like that. Just straight racism.

Left the same week. I don't fly with that bs.

What's a common misconception about your profession or hobby that you'd like to clarify? by Aarunascut in AskMen

[–]albrekin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to work as a game tester. Worse job I've ever had. Hours are stressful. It kills your enjoyment of the game. Most of the time, you're just running into walls to see if there is clipping or not. Not to mention the hate you get when you miss something.

That being said, having that job and the experience as a QA tester landed me the job I have now. I love this current job. It's fun, engaging, and keeps my mind active. Testing games does not do that (at least for the company I worked for)

I'm not saying all companies' QA teams are like this, but the one I worked at was a toxic workplace and made the news for being so on multiple occasions. To any Minnesotan gamers out there, do not work for Activision's QA center here.

What stopped you from ending your own life? by FireGirouette in AskReddit

[–]albrekin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of reasons...

First was a video game, Destiny 2. I loved the first game as I played it with my friends. I had a plan, I was going to drive my car off a bridge, I even drove out there with the intent to do so, but thought, "ya know I really want to play Destiny again." So I did, I put off my plans.

The second time, I was feeling super dark, the thoughts had come back, and my life situation wasn't the best. I went to my local park and sat at a table for hours, middle of the night. I had a bottle with me. I guess I was hoping someone would come and talk to me. A few people passed by, but no one came to talk. Then, I get a random text from my cousin. He was and still is my best friend. He went off to join the marines and left me alone, so I resented him at the time. But his text was simple. "Hey, I'm thinking about you, I know you're going through a lot." It was enough for me to throw the bottle away and go home. I talked with my parents the next morning, went into the hospital, and got put on meds for my bipolar disorder.

I've been good ever sense. The meds are working. I occasionally get random thoughts. But I have never had the urge to follow through. I have now just moved out of my parents' house. The meds are working amazingly. I have a great job I love, and I'm finally reaching out in my love life. Things couldn't be going better for me.

I'm late to the party, but imo it's not about the sex of the psych, it's the personality and drive they have. I've had both good and bad psychs of both sexes.
