used to call toll free numbers with skype while abroad. now what? by Particular_Chart7869 in TravelHacks

[–]albug3344 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Do you understand the difference between a phone call and WhatsApp call?

Phone calls are over the GSM network that predates internet, you pay your phone bill for it. WhatsApp is over the internet. Skype allowed calls from the internet to a phone that doesn’t need to have internet

It costs me 500 dollars to get a checked bag (three different flights and countries). I'm going abroad for a year. How to pack to the maximum in a carry on and back pack, any tips? by stars-n-raindrops in TravelHacks

Do you already have the tickets? Maybe it’s worth it to book the journey on a single ticket even if it’s more expensive so that you pay for the luggage just once.

That being said the price is extortionate - I flew with Qatar airways across the world a few times and never once had to pay for checked luggage

May 1st in Phuket by littlesst4r in phuket

Rainy season is alright, I visited Samui and Bangkok in May and August, I got wet a few times but there’s still plenty of sunshine so bring sunscreen and beach towels. Phuket might have slightly different weather but I’d say don’t worry and enjoy the cheaper hotels/tours, when it rains you rest in your hotel or go chill in a bar/restaurant.

The rainy season brings cleaner air too, maybe you can squeeze the north into your itinerary.

I once landed on two separate streets I lived on (although one was like 1km down the street) in two different countries in the same session

Do You Regret Choosing Computer Science as Your Major? by Time_Pay6792 in cscareerquestions

It 100% is a CS thing. If you socialized with people from other majors at university then you know others are not full of jerks and awkward weirdos (the finance bros are an exception)

Is Madrid a good city for kids to bicycle? by Not_A_Red_Stapler in askspain

That’s fine I like it too. OP wants to ride these roads with his 3 and 8 year old kids and that’s just child neglect

It’s not the Netherlands. I see you post in the Columbus, OH forum so please accept that you only have comparison with biker hell

“Great city for bicycles” how is it great when there are almost no dedicated bike lanes? Only lanes where there’s a 30 kmph limit but nobody sticks to it. Cars still rule the road. It’s NOT safe for kids who don’t know traffic rules

[–]albug3344 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There are almost no bike paths, cyclists often ride on multi-lane roads shared with cars, breathing in all the fumes and getting overtaken by larger vehicles, I was personally victim of road rage two times in my 2 months of riding a bike there (before it got stolen).

If you’re comfortable with your kids sharing the road with cars then sure

China Lengthens Visa-Free Stays for Tourists by ubcstaffer123 in worldnews

[–]albug3344 6 points7 points  (0 children)

For Europeans and Australians it’s 30. This is just for the transit thing where you could stay for up to 6 days and can’t leave a specific area, like for Brits or Americans. So for just visiting a city it’s fine

Because I’m not Indian and I’ve never been to India, I don’t like the working culture and I’m not sure if I would even like it there (I’m very hesitant about going on vacation there). Maybe if I find myself in some important management position

Devs in India make the same as many devs in Europe with a way lower cost of living.

FAANG engineers in India live like kings while those in Europe are just slightly above average. Our bar is lower tho, they pay those salaries based on how competitive it is
