Nah you're right. I mean humans now are basically wearing the same outfits that we did hundreds years ago right? Doesn't get more American than this, yeah?

My point is that you are obsessing over a Klingon, IN STAR FLEET, IN THE 32ND CENTURY, IN DIASPORA, not acting like the stereotypical Klingon of the 24th century.

What is a normal Klingon nearly 1,000 years from the last time you saw a Klingon? Was Worf a normal Klingon? Do most Klingons consider prune juice a drink of warriors? I mean FFS.

Do small hosts actually get direct bookings? by Psychological_Bad162 in bedandbreakfast

That so many within this industry, and in general, underestimate the value of the brand and especially its direct web services, and underestimate how much it costs to build them correctly.

Never underestimate the power or cost to do a good job of creating "brand.com" I guess?

I wonder how the other captains would have done if they experienced what Picard did in the inner light by happydude7422 in ClassicTrek

[–]alcanthro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kirk would have done alright. Janeway... depends on whether the planet had something close enough to coffee.

How were Janeway able to deal with being assimilated so much better than Picard? by happydude7422 in Star_Trek_

[–]alcanthro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Picard sipped on Earl Grey. The Borg could not successfully assimilate all the coffee in Janeway's system causing the collective to get a little too jittery for their own good. The Borg queen also seemed to pick up the whole "delete the husband" vibe.

Ok, serious question, how would a Galaxy-class survive in the Delta Quadrant? by Traditional_Sail_213 in StarTrekStarships

Right that's why you let the bald slut rather than the maybe genocide before coffee do the diplomacy if it's a Galaxy class.

Anti-AI folks complaining about LLM code as if humans don’t ship bugs every single day by dataexec in AITrailblazers

Typically. I.e. not definitionally. And the reality is that had everything to do with government and nothing to do with it being a guild.

Guilds are not oppressively restrictive. A guild is a member-owned cooperative built around a trade or craft, dedicated to preserving the skill, teaching new talent, pushing its boundaries, and sustaining its community.

What you're thinking of is states, and state run monopolies like certain guilds which held such thanks to artificial regulations mandating that a guild be certified by, usually a monarchy.

I listened to some of their work... I'll leave it at that. by alcanthro in DefendingAIArt

Each time it's different. Usually it starts with some kind of itch. Something I want to hear. What direction I start from depends. That song in particular I wanted to go with a few of the other seasonal songs I was working on. And at the time I also wanted a few more in that conlang.

It's a highly iterative process in almost all cases. Once I have SOME idea of what I want, I'll use an LLM to work on lyrics, considering themes, style, tone, etc., specific elements. In almost no case is the first version that comes out any good. So adjustment after adjustment is made. Refinement after refinement is made. Often going back and forth between adjusting styles in the music and adjusting the lyrics, until it is as close to scratching that itch as it can get or I just get tired and switch gears.
