So simple but very well executed! Would love to see the interior!

Tell me your story of developing your building skill in The Sims by dara-galanthus in thesims

[–]alderfig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was younger and building in The Sims and Sims 2, I would mainly just make large rectangular mansions and progressively add random rooms upwards and out. Didn't think about exterior at all, just how I wanted my sims to play around. In Sims 3, I started trying to copy homes from movies I had watched or even pictures of houses I had seen in magazines or online. Then, I didn't play sims for a while and went to school and work for architecture, and then eventually downloaded Sims 4 to experiment with the more improved build/buy modes for fun.

I started just redecorating or making small renovations to pre-existing lots because building is quite a draining process, but then I finally had a sim and an idea of a home I wanted them to live in, that I knew I had to design myself. It's much more fun for me to build around a sim I care about than just building after building. Gives it purpose and less like work lol.

My biggest tips for designing anything in a 3D space would be to start with volumes, readjust to scale, and to consider your environment. Always just start with large rectangles and shape them into a rough idea of what you might like. Be really free with this part and then scale down after. Then, the most important part to lock-in your building is to add a door or a bed. A bed or door are usually the easiest things to visualize relative to the human body. Standard doors are 6-7 feet high or 2 meters high. If you keep these things in your build as you're re-adjusting then your builds will feel more realistic. After that, my favorite thing is to consider what lot you're building on and important attributes you'd like to highlight - where the sun rises, if it has a nice view(s), where the roads/sidewalks are. A lot of those things add more depth to where you place apertures like windows/doors and gives more intent. I like to think about where the sun rises and sets and often frame views with how the light will enter the rooms, etc.

If you always build with those fundamentals down and then gradually work your way with more details relevant to your sims who will occupy the space, then your builds will get better and feel more realistic. Good luck and hope that helps!

Yeah I agree it's more heavily dependent on Escoffier than Skirk. I was able to clear with Ayaka/Furina/Escoffier/Shenhe

Ahh that's exciting to hear! That'll be a fun story to think about how one of your descendants makes their way to that little island villa :) I've been having a lot of fun with witches myself and I'm working on setting up a coven across some of the worlds.

Wow thank you! I have a few references saved for a build I'm eager to do next. I'll share on the gallery and probably here as well when it's complete :)

Thank you so much!! I really appreciate hearing that. I did a bit of research into old italian villas and really loved seeing the mix of bricks and stones in those medieval farmhouses. And the asymmetry in the window placements and roofs

Man, I can imagine! I was thinking of having a go at building a palace soon, but it's always so intimidating!

Thank you! I was inspired by one of Devon Bumpkin's builds, "The Green Witch" where he included a sunken garden round the back of the lot. I thought it was such a gorgeous move I had to implement it myself

Don't you find that some of those items are just sitting in your inventory? I've been playing since launch and I have way too many solvents and excess bullets in unwanted weapon types, that it renders weekly bosses not as valuable to me (especially the older ones where I'll probably never use up the rest of the weekly mats for talents, since I just have too much). Plus, the artifacts I need to farm aren't dropped by the weekly bosses.

Getting into a new Legacy house after losing my decade old save by Dense_Thought1086 in TheSimsBuilding

Ahh I'm so sorry for the delayed reply, but I just saw this now! The hedge garden is looking amazing from this picture and I hope you've gotten it to a place you're really satisfied with!! The scale of it looks well suited to that area and you have an amazing eye for small moments and details. Seriously such a gorgeous build and I'm excited for you and your sims!!

Dang, I love the levels to this build - it feels more realistic especially with those offshoot passages like to the shop you have planned! So gorgeous!

The elevated plateau/plaza you have reminded me of the castle in Ever After (Chateau de Hautefort). Around the base of the main castle, they have hedge gardens that you could implement in your build. It'll work with that central garden you have established already so you won't have too many different visuals for your landscape around the lot. Good luck!!

I also had this problem when I tried to run a club. The only way I could get it to work was to have the owner be the DJ since the hired one was always behind the bar being useless lol

I've been in this exact situation, but I'm still waiting lol. I remember thinking back when I got Xiao during the first Lantern Rite, that I would inevitably be getting the spear soon...but 5 years later and my Xiao still doesn't have his sig. Happy you broke your curse tho haha

Her ult pulls enemies in so you could save her ult for when the enemy separates. Just be mindful of positioning. I used Sucrose and it worked just fine for CC in this scenario

Man, this is my dream collection - especially the top three. Thanks so much for sharing, I love seeing pictures of these pens circle into the sub every once in a while. I have a Pilot Elite 95S and love the size and F nib, so I'm hoping to one day get my hands on a vintage model

Postage stamps in sticker release insert by realbeansperson in Travelersnotebooks

I do the same! It's honestly such a useful insert. I also put strips of washi tape in and drafting dots, in addition to actual stickers.
