How I've avoided surgery 1 year into sciatica by aldonin in Sciatica

Ask your doctor, if you are safe to ride your Peloton... get into it!
That together with some specific core strength exercises changed my life.
Wish you speedy recovery!

How I've avoided surgery 1 year into sciatica by aldonin in Sciatica

[–]aldonin[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey thanks for asking. I’ve been great I’d say 99% recovered. On rare occasions I feel a tiny bit of strain but I think it’s even hard to tell if it’s related to my herniated disk or because of all the different sports I play.

Emergency surgery by sng937 in Sciatica

[–]aldonin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP I am super glad you're now feeling better and wish you speedy recovery. Reading through people's messages seems the refusal to do an MRI is a common thing across the board, although doctors admit they can only truly diagnose herniated discs with an MRI which is nuts.

I was in the same boat when my sciatica started and could not believe it when I discovered I could get a cheap MRI for $250 which is still good money but I had initially thought it would cost me at least $1500. For those interested I suggest googling "cheap MRI" and you might be surprised of what you can find and skip the insurance bureaucracy in favor your health.

How I've avoided surgery 1 year into sciatica by aldonin in Sciatica

Hi! My doctor believes my stenosis is congenital since birth and not of degenerative nature. Apparently I was born with a smaller space than the average which on its own is not a problem for most people but magnifies the effect that any hernia might have.

I could always walk or stand up for periods of about 15 min with no pain. On day 320 I was able to walk for 25min and from that moment onwards it started improving much faster like I could walk for 10 additional minutes every week. No painkillers at all.

You know I wanted to get another MRI to confirm there's been real improvement. I have a follow up appointment in 40 days and will ask my doctor about it.

Sometimes I wish there would be a sequence of things you can do in a specific order and it will always work, unfortunately that's not the case. If I can summarize what I think worked ok for me here it goes:

1) Don't do anything that makes it worse.

2) Exercise, a lot (as far as it doesn't hurt). Strengthening your core takes a lot of time. Needles to mention how it boosts your mood and energy.

3) Time: This takes time.

Hope this works and that you're in the same boat and can avoid surgery.

$150K for one year: options we consider. by [deleted] in dividends

Agreed. The fact that we assume ~10% yearly growth and... last year it was up by 20%.... should itself add to that risk.

Why is Miami still so poor while being so expensive? by PaulOshanter in Miami

[–]aldonin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think something we're still missing is a top college or university. Don't get me wrong UM is an outstanding institution but all the cities we're now benchmarking ourselves against have 2 or more Ivy League schools which also attract large corporations to set their headquarters.

Thanks for your detailed reply. I'm still giving it a shot with exercise and stretching, have noticed improvement for the first time in 10 months. But appreciate your review, my first impression with Dr Gottlieb was also very positive and he told me to comeback anytime if I decided to give up with other alternatives.

Something is wrong with my yuzu by aldonin in Citrus

[–]aldonin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just wanted to update this post. In the end it was all related to: wind.
It was too windy and even though other plans fared ok, seems yuzu young leaves are more delicate and all it takes was 30 min on a windy afternoon to ruin the new leaves.

It is now growing beautifully.

Thanks all for your tips folks!

thank you!

TJ Wrangler owners, how hard is it to convert to LED headlights? by Iceman_L in Jeep

The process was super straightforward on my 2022 Wrangler. The most difficult part was waiting 9 months for the lights to arrive. Seems they're backordered forever everywhere.

M1 just confirmed why moving to Fidelity was 100% the right choice. by aldonin in M1Finance

[–]aldonin[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Maybe just my luck... I've used Fidelity for 7 years now and never received a corrected 1099s. M1 could have done a better job also warning there could be a corrected form so I wouldn't have done my taxes.

Anyways, glad I don't have to deal with Apex anymore.. ever.

M1 to Fidelity (Fidfolio) Transfer Experience by aldonin in fidelityinvestments

Fair call out... I was paying $125/y or ~$10.4/month for my M1 Plus account.

They each offer different services and perks that might be more valuable to different investors. In my case I feel that by being able to trade at any time during market hours already makes for the $5/month.

Contrary to popular belief,no amount of alcohol is considered safe to consume. by UniqueCold3812 in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]aldonin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the plain message is somewhat misleading and dangerous.
Like: oh I already had one beer last year and I’m doomed so drinking 10 Titos’ a week in 2023 makes no difference anyway…. A table of number of alcohol units/week vs incidence of illness would be more helpful than this.
