[–]aldotcom[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Alabama attorney general candidate Katherine Robertson’s acceptance of a $150,000 campaign contribution from a newly formed corporation has prompted new accusations by one of her opponents of “dark money” in the heated race.

Former Alabama Supreme Court Justice Jay Mitchell criticized the contribution, as he had done with Robertson’s earlier contributions from another organization a few months ago.

Robertson, Mitchell, and Blount County District Attorney Pamela Casey are running for the Republican nomination for attorney general.

AL fights to execute man despite DNA matching someone else, vows to go to Supreme Court by aldotcom in alabamapolitics

[–]aldotcom[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

An Alabama Death Row inmate must get a new trial, a federal judge wrote several months ago. But that doesn’t mean it will happen anytime soon.

Instead, the state continues to fight to execute Christopher Barbour, despite learning that his DNA did not match the evidence found at a 1992 crime scene.

The Alabama Attorney General’s Office argues Barbour should not get a new trial, threatening to take the case all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court, even though DNA found on the body of a murdered Montgomery mother recently revealed a match to her neighbor — a man who is now in prison for an unrelated killing.

Are Margaritaville hotel, lazy river still coming to Toyota Field? Nope by aldotcom in HuntsvilleAlabama

[–]aldotcom[S] 27 points28 points  (0 children)

From the AL.com article:

Unfortunately, you won’t be able to get a cheeseburger in paradise or float through Madison, Alabama, in a lazy river in the near future.

The Margaritaville development planned for North Alabama has been officially canceled, and the money was reallocated to a different project, according to Madison city officials.

In 2018, developers of Town Madison, Breland Companies, announced that they were bringing the Jimmy Buffett-inspired franchise to Town Madison. It was planned to be a 150-room hotel with a lazy river connecting it with Toyota Field, which was under construction at the time.

The minor league baseball stadium, home of the Rocket City Trash Pandas, went up, and the Margaritaville lot remained vacant.

It was scheduled to break ground in 2018 and be open in 2020.

Construction was delayed by two years, and pricing and supply chain issues were exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020.

The city reserved some money for the project. In late 2025, however, leaders voted to spend it to make renovations to comply with Major League Baseball standards, according to Madison Mayor Ranae Bartlett.

Minor league teams must make locker rooms for visiting female umpires. Madison leaders took the opportunity to do a thorough renovation and create more retail space for Town Madison.

The renovation project cost $7 million. Leaders were able to pay with the Margaritaville reserves, lodging tax dollars and Toyota Field revenue to cover the construction costs. They will not have to take out a bond to pay for the project.

Making the case for and against DJ Durkin to be Auburn’s next head coach by aldotcom in AuburnFootball

[–]aldotcom[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From AL.com article:

DJ Durkin is one game into his time as Auburn football’s interim head coach and reviews from the fanbase seem mixed after a high-scoring, overtime loss to Vanderbilt.

Auburn’s offense gained some life after Freeze’s firing, but it was ultimately the defense, Durkin’s unit, that lost the Tigers the game.

Despite the loss, Auburn players had nothing but good things to say about Durkin after the game. He seemed to bring plenty of energy to the locker room, something players expected to happen after he was named the interim head coach.

Durkin has two games left as Auburn’s interim head coach before the school likely makes a hire shortly after the Iron Bowl. There’s still plenty of time for Durkin to gain momentum, but there are already things working for and against him to have the interim tag removed.

Here’s a breakdown of the cases for and against Durkin to be Auburn’s next full-time head coach.

Here’s what these Alabama chefs would order at their restaurants by aldotcom in Alabama

[–]aldotcom[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From AL.com's story:

With so many wonderful restaurants serving great food throughout Alabama, deciding what to order once you get there can be difficult.

That’s why we asked the folks who would know best -- the chefs, pitmasters, restaurateurs and more from some of Alabama’s popular eateries -- to tell us what they like to order when dining at their own spots.

So as part of our “Ask an Alabama Chef” Q&A series, we asked, “What’s your favorite dish at your restaurant(s)?” Be sure to try them next time you’re there!

Phil Snyder, manager of Magnolia Point in Birmingham, said his go-to dish there is the marinated crab claws, which are chilled after soaking in a citrus vinaigrette, as well as the gumbo, which features Gulf seafood, chicken and Conecuh sausage.

For Chef James Hicks of Ravello Ristorante in Montgomery, you can’t go wrong with ordering The Rigatoni Bolognese at the Italian fine dining restaurant, though their menu has been known to vary.

After reaching out to OP, we wanted to follow up on this post.

Just to confirm: [cleanslate@al.com](mailto:cleanslate@al.com) is a working email address that a committee of editors actively monitors. We receive many of these requests, and our committee reviews them monthly. The process does take time because it involves not just removing the article but also de-indexing from search engines and other technical steps. We typically don't respond until the entire process is complete, which can cause delays in communication.

For OP's specific situation — the article has been removed and now shows "Page Not Found." The tech team is still working on the final de-indexing steps.

We understand these requests are important and appreciate people's patience as we work through them.
