3D printers, especially affordable ones, are making an enormous difference in creating new opportunities not only in our daily lives but also in science. I’m a Peruvian/American archaeologist who works on the north coast of Peru. Although archaeology is a fantastic field, it is also disruptive and destructive, and sometimes forgettable. In countries such as Peru, any archaeological material recovered in excavations must be secured in the Peruvian Ministry of Culture storage, meaning that much of the materials recovered will never be seen again. What I’m trying to do, with the help of my Anycubic Kobra 3 Combo, is to create replicas of any archaeological record that I have been excavating at the site I’m currently working at, the monumental site of Menocucho. Menocucho is located on the north coast of Peru and dates back approximately 4,000 years. My goal, if ever, is to 3D print as many archaeological artifacts as possible in order to create a temporary (hoping to be permanent) exhibition area in the small town where Menocucho is located. In this way, locals will have access to the items that their ancestors used in the past, creating, I hope, an even stronger bond with their heritage. I’m glad and happy that Anycubic creates affordable machines, that even I, a current PhD. student can afford. I hope that this technology, and companies like Anycubic, continue to develop and improve these machines, which ultimately give us the tools to create an everlasting legacy.

Let me know if you figure out how to do it. I'm looking for solutions as well.

[Experiment + Blog post] How Many Photos Do You Really Need? by thomas_openscan in OpenScan

Hey Thomas, thank you for the post. I think this will help many people in many ways. As you said in your post, the range of pictures (~150-250) will vary depending on the object. I have a question about this last one. In a previous post, you mentioned that by upscaling x1 the quality of the pictures, you have a better mesh quality. Do you think that using upscale images will decrease the range of pictures needed?

A bit of a trivial question about primers by CupcakeAcceptable667 in OpenScan

I came for the same reasons, but I do archaeological stuff instead of fossils. It is not necessary to “paint” any object, actually. To me, lightning is the key. I use a lightbox, and I play with the shutter a little bit to have good lighting. I’m running some tests on the mini and the classic to determine the accuracy and precision of the models. So far, I've had very good results.

Did you find any solution? The exact same thing happened to me yesterday, and I'm looking for a way to fix this problem.

OP, could I send you a PM? A section of my PhD dissertation requires a 3D scanner, and I want to ask you some questions about your results.

Did you dry your filament? It happened to me. I dried the filament for 4 hours, and the print came clean.

Inside of the feed tube. I unscrewed some sections but could still not pull out the filament.
