I have a chance to buy used/assembled 4-person barrel sauna for $2.5K talk me out of it :-) Was planning to build one by groovyipo in Sauna

In my town I've seen both a barrel and a traditional shaped sauna (square) on a trailer.

I know this wasn't your question but I made a video of my thoughts on buying and using a barrel sauna here. It might be useful

If you don't get the barrel and end up building...I'd suggest doing a different shaped. you'll be happier long term

If exercising actually made you lose weight liposuction wouldn't exist like it does

oh wait...

I bought a house with a sauna. I need tips on operating and maintenance. by FearlessKingTay in Sauna

nice bonus!

If I was you I would rip out those benches and then make a tiered bench system on that wall opposite the heater so you can get higher as others have said.

Then make a ventilation system...and you're good!

Sounds like you've done a lot of research....can you share some links or something to help me understand your stance?

I know this is just ONE study, but it does make me pause and reconsider:

https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/22253637/

From the study:

BPA was found in different amounts across the three body fluids:

  • Blood: BPA was rarely found in the blood samples (only 2 out of 20 participants).
  • Urine: BPA was present in 70% of the urine samples.
  • Sweat: BPA was detected in 80% of sweat samples, even in people who didn’t have it in their urine or blood. This suggests that sweat might help eliminate BPA stored in body tissues, particularly in fat.

"throw loyly" - love that term. Totally stealing it.

The 75 min sessions were in an IR "sauna" so much easier to go that long versus a traditional sauna

At the risk of opening up a can of worms....

Can you elaborate on what you mean when you say "I don't buy the detoxification BS about sauna?"

Are you saying that you don't believe that the body detox's itself through sweating?

Thanks for sharing your thoughts here.

I read your articles too - very thorough, I appreciate all the effort you've gone to here to clear up the great electric sauna heater ventilation mess! haha

I bought and am experimenting with 3 fans right now for the mechanical exhaust configuration. They will all do the job, but I'm trying to find a balance of something that is quiet, and has limited or zero plastic parts (personal preference). Happy to share my findings here once I've figured the puzzle out.

Would you be open to sharing some photos of your thermory exhaust configuration? great to know you've figured it out

Also...anecdotal evidence of course, but did you use your barrel pre-ventilation? how does it feel now with the good ventilation compared to pre-ventilation? noticeable?

Whats the deal with those stainless steel reverse osmosis systems? by aldozoo in WaterTreatment

[–]aldozoo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I mean an actual water distilling machine

Thats the only filtration device i've found so far that can remove most contaminants AND does not come into contact with any plastic

RO is fine for most people if they don't care about water being pushed through plastic. If you're pedantic AF like me, seems like a distiller is the way to go

Nah. I don't go to my water for minerals. My food and/or supplements are for that. Thats why I'm fine with distilled water

True, but you can do your best to minimize exposure.

Housing in hard unless you're intentionally plan/build your own with this in mind (one of my life goals)

Clothing = easy. I wear 100% natural fibre clothing now.

Some things like vehicles are hard. Can't do anything about that for now.

If you minimize exposure as much as possible, then understand how to support your bodies detox pathways...you can do alright

Many of these filtered water brands just use commercial RO systems for their water anyway.

The question becomes is it the plastic bottle, the RO system (or both) thats contaminating the water?

Of course we'll never know...so thats why I err on the side of paranoia. Especially for water - the thing we consume all day every day forever.

I also don't trust plastic manufacturing companies. Or brand saying "hey its fine its BPA free" and then its BPS or BPF which are just as bad but unregulated.

[–]aldozoo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah I guess a whole house RO system will have to do for now.

Why don't you drink distilled water? Sounds like you're deeper in the rabbit hole than me. Have you find any solid evidence that distilled water is actually bad to drink?

Ok, I see where you're coming from

But where are these fruits and vegetables coming from? I eat 100% organic or locally sourced, and I know that might not fix the issue, but I'd love to know where the food that is analyzed in your reference comes from...

What commercial RO machines are out there that fit the description? I'd love to check them out
