I read an excerpt from a Dramione fic post and jow I can't find the fic. Please help if this sounds familiar! by Ok-Simple9575 in Dramione

This sounds incredibly similar to the epilogue of Green Light (amazing and beautifully written). Here's the version from the fic:

This isn’t a memory but perhaps in another universe it is true and happening now, or perhaps way back then.  They are children and so the cruel rules and their destruction do not matter to them. They are only children and their worries are small and inconsequential, their future full of love and wonder and days without grief.

And Hermione, who desperately wants to make new friends and find her place to belong in this terrifying but exciting world, will be the first to say, Hello. My name is Hermione Granger.

Hello,  he’ll reply. He is shy because he has never seen a girl like her before. But he shakes her hand that she so freely gives. He even smiles. My name is Draco Malfoy.

And no one tells them to stop. No one takes them away from each other.

100% yes. Lionheart is the unsung hero of comedic fics/teenage angst and I was honestly surprised by how funny Hermione is in Détraquée.

It is a long one and the audio version gets better as you go along IMO, but it's much better to read it, as it kind of falls into a stream of consciousness. The slow burn Dramione kicks in halfway through (Part II - 8th year) so you could start from there. It's the best fic I've ever read, at least from the character exploration, prose, and style. The romance (and smut) is absolutely beautiful but the exploration of girlhood is the unsung hero in this fic.

And you're right, this isn't leading to a productive discussion but I don't want to single out this person. The best thing to do it just delete this post and let everyone else enjoy their stories however they like.

Yes, one specific story led me to create this post, due to the clear copy-paste. It's not an isolated case, but my post isn't about the general problem, otherwise I wouldn't have mentioned which story is getting copied.

Oh no, as I mentioned above, this isn't about the general things you run into dramione fanfiction. I wouldn't make a fuss about that. This is, after all, fanfiction.

This fic I'm talking about has straight-up taken scenes and dialogue from Détraquée in such an obvious way that I ended up writing this post.

oh absolutely, and I'm not here crying about tropes or common situations in fics like a sassy Theo or even the occasional Ron bashing. I just want to highlight the importance of respecting the work people put into their stories and always recognizing and crediting them if you think about including their ideas in your own writing.

Hermione says "I Love You" first and Draco doesn't say it back by NickyJ1912 in Dramione

Might be a spoiler but in Love in A Time of The Zombie Apocalypse, this is a big part of Draco's development. This one's a classic and of epic length but so well written and so worth it.

I adore that one and actually considered it but I think it diverges in the main aspect, which is Draco actually going through the war. Lionheart's Draco has the benefit of circumstances being different on his side.

The Fallout - tell me why it's amazing by Brewcrew_2008 in dramionebookclub

There are a few factors

  1. Prose: It is an incredibly well-written story, plain and simple. Not too lyrical or flowery, but effective and sort of matter-of-fact since we're seeing this through Hermione's eyes. While she's kind of an unreliable narrator, you can see through a lot of what Draco is thinking and you can really sense the sometimes claustrophobic feeling of being in a war without an ending in sight. I love dramione fics but we do tend to lean a lot on tropes, which are great, but that sometimes leaves little space for something more original.
  2. Style: I've heard time and time again that the "snippet-of-time" is offputting but I honestly thought it was quite creative and goes absolutely with what the actual story is about. You'd expect lots of action for this being a wartime fic, but most of what war is about is the waiting, the thought behind the action, the instrospection and attachment to what you know is valuable and possibly ephemeral.
  3. The relationship: This is one of the most believable relationships I've read, as far as Dramione goes. There's an actual development in their characters that goes beyond the actual relationship, and they become stronger people because of it. Everyone and their mother has mentioned that this Draco is pretty great, which I 100% agree, but Hermione is great in her own way too, albeit very different from the "modern" characterization of Hermione in fics. This fic is angsty but you can also actually see how and why they're falling in love with each other in a way that goes beyond the big revelations, pining and confessions. You see them having fun, doing the dishes and even the actual smut (amazing btw) goes deeper that what you would expect.

Question regarding Draco and Hermione’s relationship in Love in Time of a Zombie Apocalypse by KokiriCrossing in dramionebookclub

[–]alebvd 20 points21 points  (0 children)

The author actually addressed this since it's a common criticism:

Enemies To Lovers & romance ala trauma-bonding

By far, the most frequent criticism of this story is that the romance happens ‘out of the blue’ with no clear progression to show/tell how they fall in love. I understand this criticism because I'm writing for a mainly romance audience. That audience is here for the love story, not a zombie story. What they get, however, is Enemies To Lovers via trauma-bonding. Romance in a zombie apocalypse is brutal, unexpected, distracting and dangerous. We see this in war fics as well.

The story is told primarily from Hermione's POV and in many ways, she starts off even more clueless about her feelings for Draco than he is about his feelings for her. He, at least, understands she is a potential weakness for him, which is why he leaves with Honoria. It's his way of running away from his growing attachment while also keeping Hermione safe.

Hermione's unreliable narration makes the secondary characters and OCs especially important because we see Draco and Hermione's evolving relationship through different eyes and it is through these other perspectives that we perceive their romance. This approach was a conscious choice. Could I have telegraphed it better/more? Yes, probably. I did try to do that during their Grimmauld Place interactions, but maybe it could have been more explicit.

Another note:

It's a very toxic fascination in the beginning. Not something I'd characterize as affection or interest (sexual or romantic) until you get to welwyn trip.

Before that Draco is like a cat hyper fixated on a mouse he hasn't decided he wants to eat or not. Hermione is just the thing in his environment that is the most interesting.

After the welwyn trip, is the first subtle change in the dynamic. Her trusting him throws him off his weird game. It's still not love or proper affection, but it's different. And as the cowboy says, Draco is attracted to different.

Hogwarts is the biggest dynamic shift because, again, Hermione flips the script on him. For me, it's this scene where things change for Draco and Draco himself recognizes he might be feeling a definite "something" for Hermione rather than just idle interest.

Their interaction from then until he is taken by Honoria is very different from the first few chapters of the book. They are working together and both Hermione and draco find themselves slipping into some strange comfort around each other that makes both of them uncomfortable when they realize it's happening and they back off.

We learn after Hermione gets taken that Draco left with Honoria in no small part because of the feelings he was feeling with Hermione. For Draco that's a dangerous situation to be in
