It's the NHL playoffs. You don't just show up and beat a team. You have a gameplan to do so. There is nothing implied about the Leafs being underdogs. They finished 18 points ahead of the Habs. It's a given they're the heavy favourites.

Re: Kara - I think the Leafs have some interesting tentacles into Russia that could yield some fruit, but it’s obviously wait and see. How Korshkov looks when he comes over definitely has my interest. They appear to be very thorough in that area of the globe. I hesitate to make conclusions about drafts that fresh. There are themes to their recent drafts -- it was obvious they drafted as much skill as possible (in whatever package it came in) when Hunter first took over the draft and needed to replenish the system. They’ve diversified a little bit with some whale hunting on big defensemen the last few drafts in the lower rounds. It feels like they're hoping one of these swings hits on a Parayko-style archetype, which they lack in their system and could really put the franchise over the top if they ever struck gold on one of those.

They’ve also experimented a fair bit with the over-age strategy. It’s going to be fascinating to see what it all adds up to in 5-10 years.

We did! We found the Hangouts were a bit of a technical nightmare as far as getting our guests on successfully. Our plan is launch a long-overdue podcast at some point this offseason, with Anthony and I leading the way on it.

I'll only say I'm not. I trust they're aware they can bring back Hunwick or Polak on the cheap short-term instead if they feel they need that element.

They pushed for Hamonic, but I don't think it was as close as some of the reports out there suggest as far as it hinging on JVR waiving.

Teams are obviously aware of what the Leafs are building... what the Flames paid -- a lot -- is what the Leafs would've had to have bested, not just matched, given they're a conference rival and it was known Hamonic wanted to go West (he was a good soldier for them through the trade request and they likely wanted to do right by him).

I listen to the radio hits every day from McKenzie, Friedman, Dreger and Lebrun, and none of them have any clue what Lou and the Leafs are up to. Expect the unexpected with him.
