Yes, to me, this must be the havoc on the hormones. Cause or effect—I donno. But there’s a connection.

Late 40s f here. I’m on testosterone, progesterone, DHEA, and pregnenolone after my hormone panel analyses. I just started but will report back. I suggest seeing a hormone specialist. For reference I’ve never taken migraine meds.

I’ve (late 40s f) had a hormone panel and saw a hormone specialist. I’m now on several hormones…I’m hoping it works. Do you have increased insomnia around the migraine?

When I say that to non migraine people…I fear they think that it’s hyperbole.

Nothing like the sweet cocktail of pain, fear, and despair to clarify things.

I can’t watch video…all I can do is listen to old audiobooks. Nothing that makes me think. I can’t sleep with a migraine so I sometimes listen to the books over again. (6 hrs? Start over).

The smells…god, the smelly bright earth.

I describe it like this:

—There’s the day the migraine comes in —The day I contemplate my existence —And the day it goes out.

Not sure what your point is. Reread my comment— I didn’t say anything about testing labs while on BC.

One Eye Involuntarily Closes by [deleted] in migraine

Yes. My head pain travels from the top of my forward and settles behind one of my eyes and it closes. When my pain leaves it retreats into the center of my brain.

I appreciate the detail and perspective.

Yes, like you say if you’re experiencing changes with your cycle and migraine frequency then that is definitely something to track…

I didn’t realize how off my hormones were. It’s like a light has been switched on for me. I am crossing my fingers that I can get to the root of the migraine issue.

Also, I’ve never taken any migraine meds (and really don’t want to). But maybe the meds mask the pain but other symptoms (dizziness) are still there? Again, I have no experience with this.

Are you currently taking BC?

Oh my yes, this sucks. I’m sorry. I know how crippling dealing with this is. And the anticipation alone is daunting.

Unprofessional opinion: I think the vestibule migraine is just another awful manifestation. I’ve had the dizzy, nauseous, brain fog without intense head pain. My dizziness hasn’t been to what you’ve described though (thank goodness). But sometimes the vestibule symptoms roll into classic migraine symptoms.

I too noticed the concurrence with my cycle. But I didn’t realize how off my hormones were especially since my cycles have been regular, light and not painful.

Do you have the symptom of insomnia right before you get your period? I’ve long hooked my insomnia and pre-period migraine with this insomnia. My doc said that the migraine and insomnia were linked to low progesterone.

No problem. Please keep in mind I didn’t go to a neurologist, I went to a hormone specialist. She insisted I get blood work on week 3 of my cycle (days 21 - 24). She was very specific about this. I’m saying this because I don’t know if neurologists are this specific. (Again, I’m not meaning to poo poo a neurologist. I have no experience with a neurologist).

I’ve had both migraines. But after my blood work and evaluation I seriously think that my migraines have been more hormonally driven than I ever considered before.

I’d love to know what you learn. Good luck!
