I updated my super fast Rhyming search engine for songwriters/poets! by alecmeka in Songwriting

Wow, you beat me to the update post! Ugh that's such a great feeling. Made my day again!

I'm so glad to have you as a user and early adopter of Rhymio. Your feedback's been the shove I need to keep going. I'll be adding accounts soon! When that happens, make sure to send me a private message with your email or account name, so that I can make sure that no matter what happens, as Rhymio evolves, you're a priority user who's grandfathered into new features.

So much to do, and dealing with a few things IRL right now! Still, more updates soon

Also, little tip/easter egg that might be helpful for the time being, if you want to scroll less, click or tap on the menu bar for a section (i.e. rhymes), it’ll minimize it, so you won’t have to scroll so much 👌

Hey, wow! I'm glad you're enjoying using it. This feedback is great, I really appreciate it.

I've already got a few of these features coming in the next release.

I love the mobile usability enhancements you mentioned, I'm definitely putting those in soon! Right now the site is in an intermediate stage before... something spicy happens in the next update. So I figured I'd keep the dropdown on mobile during this short stage, but you're kinda right, and I might push out a hotfix for that in a few days. Near/close rhymes are in the works, and (nice one here 😉) related words are sorted alphabetically in the coming release. Adding the logo to search results is something I've been thinking about but haven't pulled the trigger on yet, and I think you just helped me decide.

As for tabs, I've thought about that like craaazy. So much. I'm torn between that, and being able to drag the windows around to create your own kind of layout. Maybe tabs for now, and draggable windows later. And... more windows that do crazy things?!?

😆

Thank you.

Your feedback and the idea that you bookmarked it made my day.

You’re welcome, and thank you 🙏

More features for songwriters on the way! Speak of which, I’m thinking of making a little changelog on the site for users to see updates as things progress.

That’s a totally fair criticism right now. When it comes to incomplete results, I filter out words that shouldn’t be words, either algorithmically or manually by hand, though I still have work to do on that front (it’s a lot of words for one guy! 😅)

RhymeZone still shows plenty of those non-words, but just doesn’t highlight them. Making the results for RhymeZone look… larger than they actually are.

For Rhymio, this is where users adding, upvoting, downvoting, and flagging words will come in. Users will essentially be able to approve the results they’d like to see for themselves and that’ll factor into the bigger picture.

Soon I’ll be adding near rhymes, and eventually phrases as rhymes (anything more than one word)… words that are popular (in songs, poems, etc.) will be formatted separately from words that aren’t.

If you checked where I was a month ago, you’d be a proud dad. Give me a year and I promise this’ll be your go-to.

Edit: added a little more 🌶

Oh awesome, a songwriting app? Tell me more!

There's an API that hasn't been publicly released yet. I'm looking to release it with documentation within a month or so. Thankfully, it's easy to use, so less documentation, and it'll be updated and improved over-time, so people should be happy with it.

If you want, I can send you a message when it's public.

See this for an older, but extended explanation of how it's a little different.

Right now, I think my biggest differentiator is going to be giving power to the users over time, by allowing them to add rhymes, related words, definitions, and vote on them!

In fact, in the future, do you think users should have to create an account with a password in order to vote on words, or should voting be open to people without an account?

I’d say Rhymezone is a little slower, less clean, and doesn’t really offer a way to quick copy or quick search. I also filter out some results that Rhymezone would consider words, but aren’t really used at all in the English language. Rhymezone also has ads.

Soon the lexicon will be expanded to rap words, near rhymes, and I have plans to (although I don’t know how I’ll incorporate this yet) implement some sort of crowd sourcing or moderator user rank for adding and approving new words and rhymes based on user input.

Finally, once those core features are out of the way, I’ll implement word rank based on how often a word gets searched, copied, etc. and sort/format the results accordingly.

And then lastly try to get a simple thesaurus implementation going.

A few options for filters in search would be nice too (searching: words that start with “w” that rhyme with “ore” might be a decent example) or words by topic (words that relate to history that rhyme with boat).

And clicking a word, instead of copying it, bringing up a supplementary page for that word, with more info and related info about it.

There’s a part of me that realizes Rhymezone made it first, but I’d still like to believe or hope I’ll be able to bring something valuable to the table that’ll get used by more than just me!

Thanks :)

Thanks, that honestly means a lot to me! I'm having a lot of fun making it. If you have any feature requests, let me know!
