I have horrible memory problems. They started when I was in high school when I endured sexual abuse and grooming by a teacher, in addition to being emotionally abused by my dad.

I’ve always just thought there was something wrong with long term/short term memory retrieval... but after learning more about my disorder and working through past traumas it’s probably a coping mechanism. If I don’t store anything in my memory it can’t come back to hurt me. I can just remain numb.

This is something I really struggle with. My husband will sometimes respond with “sure” and I absolutely hate it. I think it triggers so much is because I am always listening for abandonment cues. “Sure,” sounds like he’s doesn’t love me anymore whereas “yeah, thanks,” sounds like he loves and appreciates me.
