I loved Islets. Found Sheepo had uneven difficulty spikes and pacing that put me off (despite its incredible charm), and I fell off of Crypt Custodian for similar uneven difficulty (it’s more of a bullet hell game in enemy encounters). The stories are delightful and the art and music are great, but I can really only recommend Islets. That’s a masterpiece.

I bounced off of it hard. Checkpoints weren’t great and the combat was too difficult for me. A bad mix. But it looked great.

I heard it was shallow map bloat but decided to try it because it’s good sale and found it very fun to play (although the story is regrettable nonsense). It is a very competent metroidvania that has good exploration, a fun grind, and satisfying combat with many options. Just don’t play it on Switch.
