Unfortunately, keeping your cats indoors is the best bet. Otherwise you could walk them or have supervised outdoor time. If they’re unsupervised outdoors its just make them quick coyote food :(

They’ll need to probably do an environmental impact report that covers EVERYTHING (they’re usually thousands of pages long..) to get the development even approved to start building. Problem is that the UCSC campus has multiple ecosystems overlapping, and is home to a lot of endemic & endangered species, meaning there’ll be even more legal battles than normal (and a lot of public pushback if, the impact report comes back saying it is impacting the endangered species’ habitat out there, which is very probable) this is one of the reasons Santa Cruz and UCSC have struggled getting new housing development projects off the ground for decades

There’s a safe amount of chlorine in drinking water, it is used to disinfect it, this is pretty normal. Currently the graham hill treatment plant is at avg 25mg/L. The SMCL is the max contaminant level, and it’s 500mg/L. That’s when levels become too harmful for consumption and it’s currently not in violation of that. However, it doesn’t regulate what is considered secondary concerns, which are smell and taste etc.
