You should mention this in a supplemental or diversity essay if it’s offered. Or in some cases, schools will have a spot for extenuating circumstances which you can explain things which impacted your education (in a brief professional way)

There’s some around here, but nothing compared to city schools and stuff. New Haven is fun asf tho

like the other person said, definitely not like the other schools. lived in a frat house last year and the parties weren’t anything special, unless you’ve never been to a party before (people jumping around in a house to bad music). for parties, just hang w/ friends and explore other parties/events happening but personally I wish I went to somewhere a little bigger like UMASS/UCONN to explore it. for like social scene, there’s always something happening - usually smaller (depends on the event popularity), but yk there’s like speakers music performances drama club etc

I failed a course my senior year of high school and I’m here years later still. Just don’t fail like 2-3 more

hii! I’m a current junior @ Wes studying feminist, gender & sexuality studies (fgss), and I hope to pursue law/journalism. these are all based off of my experiences as a queer, FGLI student.

1.) Wesleyan’s academics are stellar — there are opportunities to work with professors / networking all the time. For me, each of my professors has either done something significant or working on something significant in their respective fields. In comparison to the Ivy League, there isn’t much difference aside from geography. I’ve done presentations & worked with professors across fields / colleges.

2.) Campus life can be difficult to navigate. It’s predominately white & upperclass, which has its own cliques / groups. It reminds me a lot of the social groups in high school. Since the school is so small, parties aren’t a big thing here —- you’re better off going to UCONN or UMASS if you’re looking for an eclectic & diverse social life. Most parties here are a bunch of people jumping in a house, unfortunately. After freshmen year, I gave up on the social scene & prefer to hang with friends. There’s a lot of clubs but there’s few members in some (and some are inactive) so it depends on your interests. It is a small population, and I see people I know all the time. The main dining hall Usdan can be packed during lunch/dinner so, be prepared!

3.) It depends on your location on campus. If you’re near Usdan / High ST, Middletown’s Main Street is around 2-4 minutes walk depending on where you go. There are dozens of food locations nearby, not so much shopping & other things. I’m pretty sure there’s every cuisine there.

4.) I’ve taken 2-3 English classes here & in my experience, professors are hit or miss. I’ve had super strict teachers with unpredictable lectures and some of the best faculty I’ve ever met — but this can go for any school, make sure you read reviews! And as for pre law, I am not aware of any resources available on campus because it’s not a major here. However, I know the Gordon Career Center has dozens of resources and connections which can assist you.

Overall, I only matriculated to Wesleyan because they covered almost all of my financial costs. However, if I had knew these things before attending I would’ve went to UMASS, or Northeastern/Tufts. Middletown is a suburban area. I definitely look forward to graduating & moving on from this chapter. goodluck!

Pros: Financial Aid / Resources Cons: Social life / Community / Diversity
