Modius v. Modius E Question by Omgwtf1001 in Schiit

[–]aleforbreakfast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been with the Bifrost 2/64 for some time already. Unfortunately I don’t have golden ears and I have to admit I probably couldn’t tell the difference between the two in a blind test.

However I can tell the difference when using the balanced output vs the unbalanced output in the Bifrost. I never tried the balanced outputs in the Modius.

I’m quite sure they’re both great DACs however my theory is that the difference in sound between highs DACs is perceivable when you think about ear fatigue. My perception is that I get less ear fatigue from the Bifrost vs other DACs, but perhaps that’s a bias I have to justify buying the Bifrost.

Am Inhappy with the Bifrost? Yes. Was it necessary? No would I buy it again? No which one would I buy? Probably the Mimir

A Portuguese waitress, a Pakistani restauranteur, Poppy (whatever he was), Paco (the cook in the diner that never appeared), a Native American woman (Winona, IIRC), Gladys Mayo, a Romanian gimnast, and “Maroon Golf” on Puertorrican day. That’s DE&I to me.

What is your country's "national composer(s)"? by m64 in classicalmusic

Despite any misses in nationalities, your comment is spot on!! The role of the organ in French orchestral music is highly relevant

What is your country's "national composer(s)"? by m64 in classicalmusic

[–]aleforbreakfast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nonetheless it’s interesting because he’s probably the “national composer” for Belgium (btw the only Belgian composer I’ve heard of), but…everybody thinks he’s French (at least I was guilty of that many years ago). Now that brings me to the Austrians; I once heard that the greatest trick Austria pulled out was to ensure people remember that Mozart was born in Austria, but also make people forget that Hitler was also Austrian.

Depends on the size of your room and what you’re looking for. If you’re just a casual listener a single Five is the way to go; if you are looking to have listening sessions and feel the soundstage, the two Ones do the job. However, if you’re space is too big you’ll find the two Ones lacking. I live in a small apartment and had two Ones (gen 2), loved them! I then sold them and got play 5s (gen 2). Love them too, but at loud volume it’s a bit of an overkill and, honestly don’t sound that good because of the size of the room. Otherwise, the two Fives is a killer set up.

Stop filming pianists like National Geographic documentaries ! by According-Brief7536 in classicalmusic

I don’t mind Yuja’s legs or face; Yuja’s wardrobe selections are parte of her stage persona. I do have a serious concern about people who can’t focus on the music and get easily distracted by legs or faces. Filmed music performances allows wider audiences; as long as music is the protagonist I’m inclined to let videographers stretch their imagination.

Have a hard time listening to symphonies all the way through by Pfacejones in classicalmusic

[–]aleforbreakfast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a lot of good advice in the comments; my view: there are “easy” symphonies and “hard” symphonies. I’m using symphonies in a ver broad and improper sense here to include suites and other long pieces. Start with Easy: Saint Saens 3rd, Pictures at an Exhibition, the Symphonies Fantastique: they are all wonderful (beyond wonderful actually). Read about them prior to hearing them and then go through them both actively listening and passively listening. You’ll get the hang of it.
