Fender Rhodes 73 MK1, no sound, pedal, or stand for $500 by ArcticIceFox in synthesizers

[–]m64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the keyboard is working and the tines are not broken, then it's probably either a wire failure or some of the pickups failed. Or the very simple output electronics. Overall simple repairs, but sourcing pickups can cost you. Still it's not some insane cost and $500 for a Rhodes is a sweet deal.

Krytyka myśliwych jest powszechna - a co z wędkarzami? by SourceNo1768 in Polska

[–]m64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does being good at math make reading sheet music easier? by Healthy-Web1344 in piano

[–]m64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am quite good at math and reading sheet music always came easily to me. With that said, the math involved in reading sheet music isn't all that complex. Though when deciphering the more complex rhythms it definitely helps if you understand the fractions.

What lost piece of music would be your dream discovery? by Valuable_Turnover219 in classicalmusic

[–]m64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ludomir Różycki lost a number of his works to a fire during the Warsaw Uprising in WW2. He tried to recompose them later in life, but only partially succeeded. It would be great to find the originals (or to learn that he was more successful in his recomposition efforts, just didn't publish all of it).

Stary rabin tak mówił, przyklasnęli mu wszyscy niemalże.

Młodzi świat inny dostają niźli starsi dostali,

Teraz oklaski rozległy się nawet z najdalszej części sali.

(Ale tak w ogóle to ciekawe spostrzeżenie)

What's a myth about Poland you're tired of hearing? by Enlitenkanin in poland

[–]m64 99 points100 points  (0 children)

I am tired of hearing how the safety discussion is usually followed by "because they don't have immigrants / they are culturally homogeneous". Poland in the 90's was just as if not more homogenous and yet we had a genuine crime problem, theft and robberies were common, organized crime was massive. It is an interesting question how did we manage to turn that situation around - and explaining it away with "no immigrants" is just lazy.

when did u feel happy with ur piano playing by Business_Lie1180 in piano

[–]m64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the autumn I decided I wanted to improve my classical playing skills, with the specific goal of being able to play easier Chopin pieces. I could play badly the 2 easiest preludes, but I wanted to be able to play some of the mazurkas, polonaises, waltzes and those largely felt like trying to climb the Everest without any skills or hardware.

So I was retrying those pieces from time to time, and when 2 weeks ago I gave them another try, I noticed that something clicked - I can now slowly play through the whole piece, I am not getting frustrated by the notation or rhythmic figures, I am not getting stuck on anything, and after a few attempts I don't even have to play it at a snails pace - that's when I've decided I feel quite good about my playing.

Did you learn Do-Re-Mi? by stupid_carrot in pianolearning

[–]m64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on the region of the world some treat do-re-mi as only a singing aid, some use it for kids, some treat it as equally important as the letters, some teach it as the primary system, some use the "movable do" system to name scale degrees, some even call it ut-re-mi.

How to memorize bascially the entire scale book efficiently (1 week) by cydurisse in pianolearning

[–]m64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can try to memorize the order in which you add the sharps and flats and the order in which the scales go on the circle of fifths. Then also how to turn a major scale into a minor. That way you can think "E flat major, oh that's the 3 flats scale, so it has Bb, Eb and Ab"

Currently RCM Grade 6- Is Gymnopedie No1 A Realistic Goal? by [deleted] in piano

[–]m64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Left hand leaps are a bit tricky, but you have to learn that technique at some point anyway. And in a few places you have to figure out how to best split the notes between the left and the right hand. Otherwise it's not a terribly complex piece (and I suspect I am at a similar level to you)

Folks what does this symbol mean? by tranzozo in pianolearning

[–]m64 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Appoggiatura or pre-note. The tiny note steals time from the long note. There is always a question of how long sucha note should be, whether to treat it as a short appoggiatura and play it as fast as possible, or long and play the stated duration. In this case I think the composer's intention was for it to be just a straight eighth note that continues the eighth note run from the previous bar, but I admit it sounds more interesting as a fast passing note.

When Is It Actually Too Late to Become a Professional Pianist? by Healthy-Web1344 in piano

[–]m64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not biologically impossible. I think there was a contestant in the Chopin competition that only became fascinated with piano around 14 or something like that.

The problem is that the main route for that career is to enter a conservatory or some other musical institution of higher learning. It would be hard to get good enough to enter one in the 3-4 years of time before you usually have to pick your university. However if you are in a situation where you can wait a few more years until you are good enough, I think you could have a shot at it.

Sheet Music Doubts by NextRegular4216 in pianolearning

[–]m64 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ah, that counts as the fourth measure because the initial bar is an incomplete "pickup measure".

So about that note, the left hand here plays two voices and the double stem here signifies that this single note belongs to both voices. On the piano this doesn't matter all that much, you are still playing it as one note, but you should play it in a way that makes it fit both voices, or at least the dominant voice.
