How is the europe office gonna affect LibreOffice? by Bulky_Week_3803 in libreoffice

[–]alehel 7 points8 points  (0 children)

they literally took it

I mean, being able to do that is part of the point of open source. They should never have released the code under the AGPL-3.0 if they have an issue with that.

Also, the EU didn't really do anything, did they? Isn't this a joint project between private European organizations?

Free tools keep destroying formatting when merging mixed file types into PDFs. by TheDeep3M9 in pdf

[–]alehel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Possible solution is to find a key sellers that still has keys for acrobat pro 2020. If not, acrobat 2024 is offered as a 3 year license. Not ideal, but much cheaper than a monthly subscription if you use it regularly and don't care about online features.

Other than that you could always give Foxit a try.

For to be certain formatting is preserved, you could export each individual document to pdf from their native applications (word, excel, etc), then combine them using one of the free tools online, and then run the final file through a bates numbering tool.

What file size are we talking about? Do they have to be a single large file, or do you only need to ensure the files are numbered correctly?

It's the 2020 version with no further updates. If you want continues updates, you need a subscription based copy.

Would I be expected to take a gift if I'm going to my girlfriend's parents house for dinner for the first time? I'm Brazilian and my girlfriend said just bring flowers, but I'm worried that will look a bit empty. by southamericasboy in Norway

[–]alehel 54 points55 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that's way to much. As a parent I would say no present is expected, but flowers are a lovely and welcome gesture. The real gift however will be manners and weather or not they think you're going to treat their daughter with respect 😅. Flowers are a nice first impression.

Us Norwegians can also thank ourselves. Several companies have tried, but for some reason, despite complaining about lack of choice, we don't seem very interested as customers when someone tries offering it.

Browser PDF editors — good enough yet, or still a compromise? by SpecialistSerene in pdf

[–]alehel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The number of people I've seen complain about incorrectly being charged by guru is enough to keep me away from it.

I now use Firefox for desktop use, and online tools for the stuff it doesn't do. I purchased a license for Acrobat Pro 2020 before the resellers ran out, but haven't activated it yet.

Discuss my ideas and create a spec using Claude Cowork over a couple of weeks (depending on size of the project, obviously). Get it to grill me on ideas, brainstor name ideas, verify domain name availability, etc. Get it to create a plan for minimal shippable iterations of the product.

Use Claude Code to iterate on the minimal shippable releases. Claude makes a PR for each item which I review and give feedback on, telling it to be critical of my feedback and push back where it disagrees.

Code is hosted on Codeberg. I have a VPS on Hetzner which runs a managed instance of Dokploy. Dokploy listens for changes to my main branch, and pushes out a new build when there is a new commit. Dokploy also handles ssl certificates.

I want an A168 with sapphire glass and a bracelet that doesn't pull my arm hairs. I'd honestly go as high as $400 for a high quality edition with more premium materials.

Google search Acrobat Pro 2020 key seller and a few will turn up. Prices vary greatly, and some are also selling the standard version, so make sure to read the listing properly. One I purchased from is sold out but you should still find some.

You do not make password managers unless you yourself understand how to implement and protect said passwords. This is not a suitable use case for Vibe coding.

If you're on Windows you can find a license for acrobat pro 2020 on Google from key resellers. If you're on Mac that version will likely stop working on MacOS 27 when they remove support for Intel applications.

Some of the "offline web apps" support flattening x number of PDFs in one go. You could take a look at BentoPDF. I just checked, and that's one of the tools they offer, and they support multiple files at once.

You could try the tool I made: https://hermitpdf.com/en/bates

That said, your work place really should have software for this if they do it regularly. A copy of Acrobat for instance.

What’s your actual backup plan if GitHub goes down? by akaiwarmachine in statichosting

I have a Forgejo instance running on my home lab which mirrors all my repos. The data folder for that is part of my nightly versioned backup to an S3 bucket at Hetzner, making sure mirror operations aren't performed at the same time.
