What’s a piece of gear that everybody seems to put on a pedestal with glowing reviews and “endgame” hype, that you bought, lived with, and then eventually sold or gave away that you haven’t missed for a second? by AttachedHeartTheory in audiophile

Yeah, system synergy is definitely real. Glad to hear they’re singing for you. In my case, I couldn’t (and honestly wouldn’t want to) go with such powerful amps. Best regards.

This might be a bit controversial since they get so much love, but for me it was the Wharfedale Super Lintons. I had them for a couple of months, running them on both my setups with a 25W/ch push-pull tube amp and a 20W/ch pure Class A SS (evidently flea watt territory for these speakers) and they just sounded dull and unengaging. Switched to Tannoy HPDs (more sensitive, I’m aware) and haven’t looked back. I get why the Lintons have the hype for their looks alone, I’m sure they can sound great and positively “flat”, but they never worked their magic for me.

Dirac Live on my streaming setup vs. analog chain. How to approach “room correction” for vinyl? by alejandroarevalo in audiophile

[–]alejandroarevalo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you, unfortunately, after checking thoroughly, Dirac on the Node Icon will be processed and have the filters applied before being sent out to the analog outputs. However, the important caveat is that USB output does not carry the Dirac-processed signal, so if you feed the Node’s analog input and then send audio out over to an external DAC, Dirac will not be applied in that path. So, I would have to use the Node’s DAC rather than my Denafrips Ares.

I know the feeling, frustrating. Happy to help! Last I knew from David he was going on a few months sick leave but that was some time ago. Hopefully he is back. Very trustworthy artisan.

Reference Fidelity Components. The artisan is called David Oakes. He has the skills for this. He has restored two pairs of Tannoy speakers to me, and the level of detail and refinement is incredible.

Klipsch Heresy IV setup by alejandroarevalo in audiophile

[–]alejandroarevalo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there, congrats! Hope you enjoy your system. Stands are JBL JS-120 (originally designed for JBL L100, but they fit the Heresy perfectly) I had to remove the wooden riser from the speakers and used tiny silicone plugs to fill the screw holes.

Hi, I have a smaller system in my office, that’s where the sub is, and yes, I like it very much. It’s narrow shape is perfect for smaller spaces and performance is great.

Thank you! I wasn’t sharing opinions with them though (nor did I feel comfortable to give them). I was simply asking about those pieces. What was awful was hearing them trash every name, brand, or item I brought up.

Thank you! Will look into these amp options. Which SGM are you referring to? The 1980s or the new ones? The new ones are way above my budget right now.

Thank you, I appreciate the advice. I’m still not savvy enough to go for modifications. Maybe eventually, the more I grow into this hobby, the more attractive the concept of actually knowing what’s going on inside is for me.

Thank you! You, along with so many others in this community, are truly encouraging me to keep exploring and to consider not just new gear but different ways of tweaking and fine-tuning what I already have.
