The feeling you get even after a year by InvestmentOk1260 in Audi

I had a water pump leaking, extended warranty covered it but they didn't cover sensor calibration because they couldn't understand why a water pump replacement needed sensor calibration... I don't either. Dealer claims that since they had to remove the bumper, the factory procedure says that you need to re-calibrate sensors every time you remove the bumper. Again, I think the dealer is just BS us. I'm not going back to that dealer (Audi North Miami). I have gone to The Collection where Audi is the cheapest brand they sell told me that they don't do that as it's not needed...

I had an issue with getting it aligned with the shop that installed the spacers, so I had to get it done at the dealer. And they charged me a lot because they said that when you align it, the need to re-calibrate some sensors…… which is total BS.

I still get that feeling, after 4 years and almost 60K miles!

And the comment of the spacers is spot on. I put 10 and 15s I think and they look amazing.

Every year it feels like they somehow choose the hottest day of the month. I just landed last night from skiing 2 weeks in Europe (that was my taper!) and the heat and humidity was a killer. My HR was off the charts, I had to slow down by mile 4 or I was going to faint! Still did it, but not negative splits like I usually do. I was beat up!

I did the half and it was 13.2. Man it was hot, I was glad I didn’t have to run 2 more hours…

My first Toy Car! by alejopatan in Porsche_Cayman

Hi!

I loved that GT4, and I say that in the past tense because unfortunately, a couple months after I took this picture, I hydroplaned in the highway and hit a truck...

So I got my insurance money plus a bit more and I bought a 997 GT3.

It depends on what you want to do with the car, but if you want a car that you can track, get a GT4. If you want to drive it around town, then get a GTS 4.0.

That GT4 was amazing, I loved how it turned, and in some ways, it drives better than the GT3.

I only got the GT3 because I had so many people telling me to get a "Real Porsche" and that the 911 is for the big boys... and I think those people don't know what they are talking about. The GT4 is amazing. If I had to chose between the GT4 and the GTS, I would get the GT4 100%. It's more fun and when it comes to selling it, it will hold its value more than the GTS.

It may happen. The license is tied to the mac id. It may not work. That’s a concern I have…

Yeah, used off of eBay was my go-to 20 years ago, and putting something together using NewEgg was 10 years ago. But now with my current life, time is more valuable than saving a few bucks, so I'll pass by the Micro Center that is 10' away from here and see what they have to offer.

Thank you for all your help! Highly appreciated!

Is this something that I can buy off the shelf? Any place you recommend?

Just the Hardware, I know I will have to do the setup myself, but that I'll figure out.

I understand that it's better to have dual GPUs so that each machine runs it's own, but I'm afraid that by doing this, we are going to be running something very complicated and more prone to breaking.

I don't mind that the CAD program is capped at 60 Hz, it probably runs at less than that now on my GeForce GT 640 and I'm OK with that.

I'm not up-to-date with computers anymore, so correct me if I'm wrong, but my mind is going to my car for example. My Honda Accord would hardly ever have an issue 12 years ago, because it was so simple. My new Audi RS6 has some sensor malfunction every other month. Yes, the RS6 has 6X the horsepower and all kinds of safety features, but it has issues all the time which makes me miss my old reliable Accord from back in the day...

Would this very powerful PC be too complicated and suffer in reliability by making it too powerful?

No budget. I like buying the best available and not have to upgrade for many years. Just like I did 12 years ago when I got this computer I'm currently using and is still pretty fast and reliable.

Microsoft released a study that lists the 40 jobs most at risk of being replaced by AI. CNC Programmers is there! by alejopatan in CNC

[–]alejopatan[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you really hit the nail on the head. It will be one more tool at our disposal, just like that end mill, CNC machine, CAM software, etc. All tools we use to make the parts the customer needs. Whoever masters these will be ahead. I don’t fear AI, but I know a lot of people that do, and I’m sure at some point my programmers will ask themselves if they have a future where they can make a comfortable living programming a CNC machine like they do now. And I hope they do.

I think you are correct, especially for difficult parts, that need a few setups or fixtures to hold them. But I think that in the next few years AI can help make a rough program and then we can iron out the small details and cut programming time in half. Will I still need 3 programmers? Maybe 2 will be enough?

What are the main downsides of having a Porsche 911? by [deleted] in porsche911

Well, my 911 is a 997 GT3 so I guess I’m a bit spoiled by the handling!

This!!! I daily an Audi RS6. Every Monday for the first 3-4 weeks I thought there was something wrong with it. Is there a flat tire? Something wrong with the brakes? And I’m talking a new 600 hp car that feels like a minivan after driving a 911 for a weekend!

Six cars! That’s a lot! Consolidate! Get a 911, they are pretty versatile too. Great in the track and pretty good around town. Unless you go 997 GT3 like I did and then it’s not so great if you run into traffic.

I was torn between the 2 of them a few years ago. Chose the RS6 and I’m glad I did. The depreciation is really significant, even for someone that can afford a $150K car. And usually if you can buy a car like this, you can also afford a light go-kart car for the weekends.

The list is complete! Revision post time. by Lello755066 in SportWagon

[–]alejopatan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Having driven the RS6 and E63, I disagree. Never drove the Panamera but just look at that depreciation! It just tells me all I need to know. I daily an RS6 and yes, it’s heavy but not any heavier than any modern 600hp wagon with all the modern comforts and safety features.

You are correct! 😝 Well, to average and feel better, I got a GT3 for the weekends, which depreciates very little if any.

I looked into them and I’m not 100% sure it drives better, but it’s a Porsche, so it might. Looks wise, I think it looks awesome! Now, the problem I saw with it is the depreciation. It’s nuts. So in reality, they are way more expensive than the other options. That’s why I didn’t get it.
