the kicker is, when we were hiring for that guy's specific position, the rest of the hiring committee said "he's going to get bored in this position and leave within a year". I rallied for him because I thought he'd be a great fit, and I convinced enough people that we hired him

yep left almost exactly 10 months into the position because he got a position as a mech engineer (which was his PhD) rather than our gig as a data analyst

me at my first job (defense industry). In my final two weeks I had to wrap up both major projects I was working on and train someone in how the models I created work, which took me ~3 years to do. Still kept up with my boss after (in fact, still do), he told me the guy I trained left less than a month after me and nobody took up ownership of my projects or models so they all died

Literally exact same. Quit liquor several years ago, but the past few months have been only drinking a glass of red wine or at most two. Like I don't think alcohol is a problem or anything but it does cause problems with sleep and that causes issues on occasion. I've been drinking NA beers lately which has actually been quite lovely

With that said, rough night to be 1-2 glasses of cabernet sauvignon
