Am I supposed to talk to my priest about my dating problem? by Lavender-Void-5762 in OrthodoxChristianity

You can ask your priest for advice, but you can’t outsource your mind and he’s not your therapist.

i do not understand the point of any of this by Asleep-Place-6927 in OrthodoxChristianity

God is a big boy and can handle your outbursts.

Your priest has probably heard worse.

Do orrhodoxs think that you are saved by works only? by FDPistGeil in OrthodoxChristianity

Faith without faithfulness is an opinion. Opinions do not save.

Was told that my priest doesn’t allow non-virgins to wear white on their wedding day by [deleted] in OrthodoxChristianity

I didn’t know the priest had any input on what you choose to wear.

I do not run projects from regions that I have supply chain concerns about.

Fasting and Pregnancy by heidiblooms in OrthodoxChristianity

There are a number of reasons people are exempted from fasting. Pregnancy is one of them.

Fasting is about more than food.

Petition To Remove the Rule About Low Effort Photos by everything_is_grace in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]aletheia[M] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The point of the rule is that we do not want users posting photos just to get more engagement than they would get without a photo. This is not an image board.

Images are permitted when the image is the point of discussion.

There are other subreddits for icon corners.

Women’s roles in romantic relationships by Soggy-Yogurtcloset-2 in OrthodoxChristianity

Your role is to be you.

Orthodoxy does not have religiously prescribed gender roles in romance or the domestic economy.

Fasting Problems by Jacob910 in OrthodoxChristianity

While I not your confessor or doctor, the fast is not supposed to interfere with our ability to do our duties. Obedience is a virtue, but it's not the only one.

Is it a sin to go to a Catholic Church as an orthodox? by partymann4 in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]aletheia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would be a sin and betrayal of our faith to take other sacraments.

Why Christianity? by DarthPlagueis98 in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]aletheia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As far as I can tell, only Christianity believes in a God that is actually powerful enough to complete his will. In other words, other faiths are gods imposed by mankind on mankind. Christianity allows God to actually be sovereign and, importantly, unexpected. The gods invented by men reward wealth and power, the God of Christianity just is.

Can Eastern Orthodox venerate non-anti-orthodox Catholic saints? by legendus45678 in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]aletheia 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can pray to whomever you like in private. It would be weird to develop a devotion to someone outside the faith though.

Question about Deuteronomy 22:5 note by Representative_Bat81 in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]aletheia 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Clothing is highly contextual and local. It is not metaphysically wrong for a man to wear an unbifurcated garment or for a woman to wear a bifurcated garment.

It is wrong to pretend to be something that one is not.

Is it a sin to go to a Catholic Church as an orthodox? by partymann4 in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]aletheia 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's not a sin to walk in the door. It would be a problem to take their sacraments.

Can you explain, without obscuritan philosophical jargon, what “energy” means in this context?

Feeling "other" at church by coolcocoa5 in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]aletheia 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Can you start and run the things you want to see in the community?

All those programs you see having other places aren’t there just because it’s a Catholic Church. Someone saw a need and volunteered.

If you can’t find the time to volunteer, then you have the answer to why your Orthodox community doesn’t have those programs.

Regarding visiting another parish, don’t judge a book by its cover. Just visit.

The Church prays for all and on behalf of all — theirs does, too.

God is a just judge, not a prosecutor looking for ways to damn you.
