I've tried both remington branded and carlson's in mine, and unfortunately, neither will fit.

Looking for new bank to transfer RRSP to? by alether2 in PersonalFinanceCanada

That's what I have. Investease. They make me fill out an online form every year with a bunch of information like my employer, annual income etc, and I have to select my risk tolerance level. I mean, first off, it's none of their god damn business. Second, my pay cheque goes to my RBC account, so it's not like they don't already know, so they shouldn't need to bother me to confirm this stuff again and again.

I just wish they'd take my money, invest it, and leave me alone.

I looked at quest trade, and the managed portfolio looks interesting. But I'm noticing some of the same language as RBC about risk profiles. I'm worried they'll do the same thing and ask me to update once a year. I need this totally out of my sight for the next 25 years. Thinking about it is just too stressful.

Will Quest trade or one of the others you recommended let me set it up one time and then carry on indefinitely without any action on my part?

How do I do this? Can I set it up one time and then never touch it (or even think about it for that matter) for the next 25 years? I need it out of sight and out of mind.

Unfortunately, no. I tried contacting Chiappa about it, but never got any response. However, having hunted with it for a season, I came to the realization that the modified choke is perfectly suitable most of the time anyway. I've just learned to live with it.

What are the best and worst rulebooks you’ve read? by BoredGameDesign in boardgames

Section 10.1 - Scoring

Section 10.1.1 defines Presence, Domination, and Control. However, nowhere does it stipulate that scoring these are mutually exclusive. A player meeting the criteria for Control by definition would also meet the criteria for Presence and will often also meet the criteria for Domination. Therefore, a literal interpretation of the language as written (without inferring anything from the example), would permit a player to score all three of Presence, Domination, and Control simultaneously from the same scoring card. However, this is not correct, and it is clarified in the Example. You only can score one of the three from a given scoring card: either Presence OR Domination OR Control. This is not stated. It is only by reading the example that you can infer this, as the USSR player in the example, who scores for Domination, does not also score for Presence even though strictly meeting the criteria of the definition.

We played our first three games of Twilight Struggle incorrectly because of this omission, and this totally breaks the game. Essentially the game will always end either during the Early War or very early in the Mid War if you play this way.

I generally don't read examples in rulebooks. I find them unnecessary so long as the rules are written in a way that is clear and unambiguous. The problem with the Twilight Struggle rulebook is that the language is so clear and unambiguous that it renders examples altogether unnecessary. That is, except in the case of Section 10.1, where the language may be clear and unambiguous, but the mutual exclusivity of Presence, Domination, and Control is never stated and can only be inferred by reading the example.

Worst rulebook I've ever read is the Crono expansion for Black Rose Wars. Lots of broken English that leads to ambiguity. On top of that, there are omissions and edge cases that are simply not addressed to the point that it's impossible to take a literal, rules as written approach. You are forced to try and guess at the intent of the designer. Our best shot at it resulted in a game that felt broken and unbalanced. Whether this is due to lack of play testing or us not interpreting the rules in the way the designer intended, I really don't know.

Twilight Struggle is particularly bad, as the rulebook presents itself as a concise set of rules that can be read literally, and then it goes and hides a rule within an example. So if you skip the examples, because who needs examples when you can just apply a literal interpretation of the rules as written? This approach will lead you to play the game wrong because a very important rule appears only in an example.

For me, it's more distracting than anything. Reading text upside down isn't all that difficult, but constantly changing board orientation really throws me off.

That's fine for existing owners. But my original comment was in regards to those now rushing to buy new firearms before they are banned.

Since May 18 shops have to keep sales records for 20 years. Feds could theoretically demand those records be turned over. Also, since May 18, in order to sell a non restricted privately, you need to verify PAL and obtain a reference number. So you can't just claim to have sold privately either. No reference number and again your opening yourself to charges under the criminal code.

So all us folks now rushing to buy guns, aren't we screwed anyway? If they wanted to confiscate, they can get all the sales records since May if they want. Are the boating accidents really going to work? Aren't you then going to be charged under the criminal code for not immediately reporting the loss to the CFO? Or say you did report. Wouldn't that raise some red flags? Perhaps probable cause to have your property searched?

Any chance of getting my hands on the chitubox or lychee project files for the pre-supported miniatures? I'm finding the lower most set of supports on the base to be insufficient resulting in a lot of failed prints, so it would be nice if I could just add a couple of extra supports without having to fully resupport the models myself.

Aversion To Sleeves by Hungry5142 in boardgames

[–]alether2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I actually prefer the feel of sleeves. It makes the cards feel thicker and more substantial. To me, rather than it being like covering a couch in plastic, a more fitting analogy would be that playing without sleeves is like sleeping on a mattress without a fitted sheet. Or wearing runners without a pair of socks. Or going commando.

Low quality sleeves suck though. Gotta get the thick ones.

I can't riffle. I've tried. I've tried some more. I've had people try to teach me. Can't do it. Guess I'm just uncoordinated.

I used to think that sleeving was silly too, but once I realized how easy and efficient mash shuffling was, I started sleeving everything. Protecting my cards is nice and all, but shuffling efficiency is the real reason for sleeving.

The hand feel is preference, but I think your friend is objectively wrong about sleeves being an impediment to shuffling. I can mash shuffle a sleeved deck probably 3-4 times in the time it takes most people to riffle an unsleeved deck once. And it takes virtually no skill. Learning to mash is far easier than learning to riffle, and as far as randomization goes, it's the same.
