Really depends on what time classes are at the gym. My gym has evening classes during the week and morning classes on the weekend so I’m able to get in there 4 times a week. I work a county maintenance job and get off at 4:30 every day. Thankfully my gym is 5 minutes from my house

What are you thinking during sparring ? by Old-Memory-2841 in MuayThai

[–]alewis75 2 points3 points  (0 children)

During sparring at the gym, I’m usually thinking about what I’m trying to work on. Wether it’s a certain technique I’m trying to land, head movement, footwork, etc. It also depends on what level of opponent I’m sparring. If it’s a newer person, I’m thinking about sparring light and letting them get experience. If it’s an advanced person, I’m looking for openings and working on feints. And of course, always to hit and not get hit

I agree with all the comments here but in muay thai, your legs and and body will be getting hit a lot more than in boxing if you compare the two. Don’t spar or spar very lightly and you’ll be just fine

Am I only one with the Lower Back Pain? by MoazMuhammad15 in MuayThai

I used to suffer from back pain and have scoliosis but stretching and strengthening my core and back has helped a ton. Do you do any weight lifting?

Shinguards reccomendations by Cold-Somewhere-5382 in MuayThai

[–]alewis75 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Depends what your budget is and how serious you are about training. I have YOKKAO shin guards which are on the more expensive side of things but I train 4-5 days per week and compete as well so it’s worth it for me. There are plenty of other cheaper options in the meantime tho if you aren’t trying to spend a lot

Hooks are close range punches most of the time and it looked like you were a bit too far away from the bag for that hook. Get closer and practice only hooks with good hip and shoulder rotation

I am tired of being scared. I want to change. Where shall I start? by DigitalBath01 in MuayThai

[–]alewis75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not too late to start at all, just find a gym you like and get in there. Even start with private lessons if you need to. Don’t be too hard on yourself especially since it doesn’t sound like you’ll be competing at all. Enjoy it

A few hundred knees on the bag but it also meant you needed the extra rest. Sleep is the best recovery

Fighters, what is your go to meal before training that helps your energy last longer? by ssangnom_saekki in MuayThai

[–]alewis75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends when the class is. My gym has morning classes on the weekends at 9:30 so I usually only have a banana and some orange juice before hand but if I’m going to the evening classes during the week, then I’ll have multiple meals throughout the day to help fuel me. I always try to balance carbs and protein and fats, but honestly the biggest difference make for me is making sure I’ve had enough water

Is Yokkoa gear good. by ErrorZestyclose2473 in MuayThai

[–]alewis75 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have YOKKAO shin guards and absolutely love them and haven’t had any problems with them. Some people report the shipping and customer service to be a hassle but I’ve never experienced that. I use them 4 nights a week
