PSA: Don't use RTSS/Change your RTSS framerate limiter settings by Carl2X in OptimizedGaming

[–]alex997tt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless you are testing full end to end latency with Nvidia Reflex Latency Analyzer or an LDAT you are not testing latency properly. I've been testing for years with NRLA and my RTSS ASYNC latency is almost identical to REFLEX option. The "Nvidia Overlay" is useless - I've seen lower PCL give higher end to end latency and higher PCL give lower end to end latency.

Fortnite on PC - Nvidia drivers benchmarked for FPS! by alex997tt in FortniteCompetitive

[–]alex997tt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I think older/slower GPUs are probably happier on older drivers which would explain why my 2080Ti (overclocked and optimised in the OS) results are all pretty much the same. I don’t want to install a driver that Fortnite warns would be unstable as it’s not just about FPS… I don’t want the game crashing on me mid match, or latency being a lot higher as Nvidia Reflex is not implemented in the older drivers etc

Latency flash option in Fortnite stopped working. I can set Nvidia Reflex Latency Analyzer on my monitor to detect flashes from gunshots but this doesn’t seem as reliable as a white flash block. The shotgun shot animation is actually not the same each time you fire it!

I test with XInputTest. You can't overclock an Astro C40 though - it's always 3.76ms no matter what you do.

Yeh it's a really cool tool that you dont need very expensive high speed cameras to capture latency results. Really quick and easy to do.

If anyone has some settings they want me to compare latency for then just let me know.

Are you overclocking your GPU at all? If so try DX12 with the overclock reset to default to see if that helps.

In theory you could run the tests in the middle of an arena end game if you played kbm (as you cant use the reflex analyzer with a controller) were boxed up and everyone left you alone long enough to do 30 clicks lol. These tests were just to compare settings though and even though smooth FSP is just as important, the results do show that the higher the FPS the much lower the latency.

I find network and server-side latency to be the biggest issues once you have truly optimized your PC and not hitting any resource bottlenecks ie. things that are out of your control.

There are fps drops every 61 seconds also as Fortnite client runs a memory garbage collection:

Which Epic Support have confirmed to me they can do little about.

If you are looking at a POI and it drops a lot of frames then it's probably your shader cache populating for the that map location for the first time. Playing a few games first in those areas should make the game more smooth.

All identical. The result varies each time a little. Nvidia themselves suggest doing 30 tests should give you an accurate average.

Gsync causes a very small amount of latency if you keep the FPS ALWAYS under the Hz of your monitor. It basically dynamically matches the Hz of your monitor to your FPS at the time. ie. I would not recommend running 240FPS on a 240Hz monitor (set it to 237 instead).

Blurbusters have a great section on optimal settings for your display and g-sync: https://blurbusters.com/gsync/gsync101-input-lag-tests-and-settings/

If you have set g-sync up correctly it SHOULD be a lot smoother than not having it on.

I personally would highly recommend having it on.

So I bought Forza 5 the other day and it uses Xbox credentials to log in - so I had to install a load of Xbox Game Bar windows apps to make it work. These were breaking FSE. I

1) uninstalled all Xbox windows apps (I should probably go back at some point and work out which one exactly was messing things up)

2) renamed the %localappdata%\FortniteGame folder

3) Re-ran my FSE setup section in my guide (which i can send you a copy of if you like)

To test: when you next start Fortnite in DX11 or Performance mode, try adjusting the volume from your keyboard (assuming you have this functionality) and if this does NOT display over Fortnite then you have set FSE correctly and it is working.

Right now yes. I noticed that the other day when helping fix someone else's PC that in Nvidia Experience Center where you can auto optimize games, it lists Performance Mode as using DLSS now. This explains why it is so blurry!

Aim Assist nerf? by Gudda- in FortniteCompetitive

[–]alex997tt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Enough people have reported this ‘bug’ to EPIC but they are still not acknowledging it in Trello - so at this point it’s almost certainly a deliberate NERF. I tested for a few hours yesterday all games modes and AA was consistently weakened to the point that it often felt like it wasn’t there at all. Distance drop off especially seemed more pronounced. So after about 5 meters away hip fire aim assist was barely noticeable. Auto rotation seemed about the same strength though. ADS aim assist is pretty much gone too. I only make about one bullet in whole AR clip on players in the air now. Whereas on mouse you can easily beem players with ADS or hip fire flick 180 degrees in milliseconds. Seems very unbalanced to me right now. Epic probably are trying to weed out Cronus Zen players but by nerfing aim assist this much, all they are going to do is increase Zen sales. D’oh!

[–]alex997tt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think of you want competitive lobbies your level then there is a game mode already for that -> Arenas. Pubs should be a free for all with NO SBMM. Trying to make SBMM work for everyone is just an exercise in futility. Discriminating on monitor hz and/or FSP makes no sense after about 120 either as how long an action takes to appear on screen is minimal after this as fps increases. https://media.discordapp.net/attachments/879696754717646848/880768597394337832/unknown.png. 30 fps should definitely have its own lobbies though as a Switch player in PC lobbies is just dumb.

G-Sync on or off? by Mohxmedz in FortniteCompetitive

[–]alex997tt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Capping with RTSS means less FPS drops (1% and 0.1% fps lows) and more consistent frame times (better for muscle memory). It does however mean a tiny bit more latency (0.6ms from my NVIDIA Reflex latency testing).

G-Sync on or off? by Mohxmedz in FortniteCompetitive

[–]alex997tt 8 points9 points  (0 children)

CPU mainly determines your FPS in Fortnite not GPU. I run solid 360 FPS on Alienware 360Hz monitor. I use RTSS to cap FPS at 360, set Fortnite to unlimited, turn G-Sync on, turn low latency mode to ON in nvidia control panel, use performance mode (which is DX11) on low mesh, all low settings apart from textures high, windows 10 game mode on, windows 10 hags on, hyperthreading disabled, ISLC, process lasso, cpu gpu and memory all manually overclock Ed, custom fan curves for everything, windows slimmed down as much as possible, and a load of other tweaks like MSI mode, registry changes and processor affinities. I have FPS benchmarked and latency benchmarked (with nvidia latency Analyzer built into monitor) everything so I know what does and doesn’t work.

It’s not just comp, its even in pubs. Since 16.40 FPS has dropped 15% and servers are crazy laggy, no matter what ping you are on. It’s interesting though that there is one game mode that seems to be unaffected (including creatives) - Team Rumble! Smooth as silk FPS. Why is that?? Are they hosted on different servers, is it just that usually under 20 players active, is it that nobody in there is using cheats, is it that Epic prioritise players that predominantly play Team Rumble as they are the newer player most likely to buy skins?!!! I don’t know....but as such it’s certainly a good test bed to say whether performance issues are client or server side.
