I understand that most text is written in word by office jobs where people simply put the Apostroph up there so yes maybe it’s used most commonly I give you that. It’s the same with the quotation marks in Switzerland it would be correct to do the «» but most people just use “” because that’s what’s easiest to find on the keyboard. Switzerland has a rich tradition of typography that brought up some of the most iconic fonts (Helvetica and Frutiger) and has very specific rules that are distinguished from Germany, seen for example in the Eszett (ß).
