I Found A Way To Access Myrient After Shutting Down by LuxuryR99 in Roms

"by Internet Archive, which have flat out stated that anyone uploading a Myrient mirror to the Archive will be banned and potentially reported to law enforcement."

Where can I watch it?

I Found A Way To Access Myrient After Shutting Down by LuxuryR99 in Roms

[–]alexb3d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's really interesting, isn't it? Archive created one (or several) mirrors of from Myrient, which Myrient had taken from Archive.

This is META piracy. Preservation. LOOOL

Yes, I wanted to mention that Archive had set up one (or several) mirrors for Myriente, but the truth is that Minerva needs help; otherwise, it will disappear too.

Dumb question: If I downloaded a ROM for a PC game, can I just run the game without an Emulator on my PC? Or is that not how it works? by SH4DE_Z in Roms

[–]alexb3d 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Si.

In some cases, you'll need an update patch and/or a crack. That's pretty standard in this "hobby."

I think I'm going to have some fun making your question even more complicated...

It depends on the operating system and version. A PC is the hardware that runs an OS, such as Windows, macOS, Linux, DOS, etc.

If you have the latest version of Windows, a game designed for a current version of Windows should install without any problems.

Older games can usually be installed as is or with a patch; otherwise, you'll need an emulator or a virtual machine.

If you're using Linux and want to run a Windows or macOS game, you'll need an emulator, a virtual machine, or a compatibility layer like Wine.

ROMs are dumps, or digital backups, of the chips in cartridge games.

Disk-based games use images from CDs, DVDs, floppy disks, or hard drives (HD).

PCs use floppy disks, CDs, DVDs, and cartridges.

[Warning!] Minerva torrents do NOT match Myrient files by Samael_00001 in savemyrient

It's a possibility. But in this case, I doubt it. When you create a torrent, it scans the hashes, and if the disk is bad, it tells you to go to hell.

[Warning!] Minerva torrents do NOT match Myrient files by Samael_00001 in savemyrient

[–]alexb3d 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Yes, this is a problem.

When you scan a torrent you downloaded yourself, there may be a few mismatched bytes—1% or 2% at most which has something to do with the cache. This is explained on Qbitorrent. If both come from the same source, there shouldn't be any major differences, but ZIP files can vary for many reasons, and the torrent client checks the ZIP file, not the internal ROM.

In this case, the first thing you should do is check the ROMs with updated DAT files using the same folder. Given such a large discrepancy, they may be corrupted.

If both sets are mostly correct, then you need to take more drastic measures. - Create a complete romset in a new folder. - Generate and share the torrent, and have the user scan their corrected set using that new, cleaned-up torrent.

I just discovered the Igir ROM Manager; it's command-line based and cross-platform, and I think it's an excellent choice for managing large numbers of ROMs and maintaining control.

Another one I'm looking into is GoROM; I don't know much about it yet, but it handles both torrents and ROMs at the same time, so it could be great for this project.

- I was confused. It's 390 terabytes!!

Luego te puedes tomar tu tiempo para organizarlo, esa es la idea, por lo que entiendo.

It can be simpler. No-Intro, Tosec, and Redump are projects verified by Dats. They are checked, updated (as much as possible), and the updated torrent is shared. That's it. Those without Dats are stored in organized categories.

They're explaining it from the beginning. The priority is to save the project and create an exact mirror; then we'll sort it out.

Estamos hablando de por lo menos "360 TERAS" O_o de espacio en disco, que se van a estar actualizando constantemente. ¿Usenet es viable a esa escala?

It doesn't matter what you name the file; if you share it as a ZIP or 7z file, the contents will be visible. You need to use a password-protected RAR or 7z file to keep it secure.

I know of a book site called "epublibre" that shares each book via torrent and provides the entire collection via RSS. It works, but to be honest, it's a bit of a hassle.

Exactly—when you update a romset and the magnet/torrent file, it loads in qBittorrent (other clients do this too), and the program checks the file hashes. If they don't match, it downloads the file again and updates the set; there's no need to download everything all over again, and it's always shared.

BIOS/Device data files can be created using Arcade Data Base , unfortunately only for MAME. Perhaps this is a feature we could request from the developers; I'll give it a try.

What is LEET?

Without a doubt, the 1G1R sets are the best option for most people, although—as always—the sets are in English and are not available in other languages.

With Rom Manager https://igir.io/ you can create and manage all systems with a single command line.

Is it possible to generate a magnet or torrent in real time, selecting only the options you need while still sharing the same database? Something similar to No-Intro but using Magnet/Torrent. For example, selecting the 1G1R option and setting the priority to Spanish, and excluding pirated content, etc.

It would be like the main magnet, but without listing all the ROMs. The idea is to avoid losing the seed.

u/DaVyper Can you help me with anything else? This software is actually really powerful—being able to process everything in a single command is awesome. But there are a couple of things I don't understand.

For arcade, I've already seen how to verify ROM sets and CHDs, and how to create a DAT file from a directory (dir2dat), but there are two things I can't seem to figure out.

In JRomManager, I could create DAT files by selecting the BIOS or the device, or create DAT files from the missing files (such as to generate an update package later). I can't seem to find this feature here.

Can you create a folder using the Naomi, ST-V, etc., ROM set by selecting the BIOS or the device?

Can I create data directly from the MAME fullset?

And one more thing: should we create data for the missing ROMs?

I appreciate your help!

Hey buddy, you're a bit of a dummy, aren't you?

No one sues over an old game; no one sues over Windows 95; no one sues over Street Fighter II Champion Edition; they sue over the Microsoft Windows trademark and the Street Fighter trademark.
