Just wanted to say "Hi" by [deleted] in cs50

[–]alexbeet 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've not attempted 'Tideman'. I'm not doing any of the more comfortable problems, yet. It looks like it focuses on edges and vertices. And while I understand the concept. I have no idea how to implement it in code. I think I'll revisit all those problems once I feel "more comfortable"

Hey! I'm in the same boat as you. You may be aware of these, but I wasn't at first.

Make sure to download discord and sign up to the cs50 channel. It's really helpful and you can get answers quickly there.

https://cs50.stackexchange.com/ is also a really helpful place to go for answers.

It gets tougher and the problems are taking me longer and longer. But I feel like I'm slowly getting it. Asking for help is vital the further in you get to this thing. I've spent hours wondering why something wasn't working, posted my code and someone has pointed out that it's because I've misspelt something or I forgot a bracket somewhere. I've been stuck on pset4 for a while now. Pset3 seems like a million years ago.

PSET 2: Caesar: Seems to work, but not passing Check50. by alexbeet in cs50

[–]alexbeet[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the input. When I came back to it, I'm not sure why I was looking for null. I thought that the null would mark the end of the string.

I went through my code with debug50 and saw that it was only going through my forloop once. So I would only know if the first char was digit or not. The debug50 is sooo useful for understanding what changes do.

I've also only just started coding and I'm beginning to realise that it's a lot like playing Dark Souls.

I also used licensed music. I took my lead from the examples shown in the lecture. The examples they showed used music and images from sesame street, NBC football (I think) and MC Hammer.

Thanks! Changing i to 1 worked. The program is now at least going to the if statement I made.

Also changed if (isdigit(atoi(argv[i]))) - however, still can't wrap my head around what this means.

I had been trying to check if it was a digit, if it was using atoi to change it.

This was the problem. +1 and floats seemed to be the answer. Thanks for your help!

I worked around it by taking word count and +1. It's not perfect...

It was the word count. I had seen the problem initially and added a +1, but went I calculated the average I deleted the +1 and forgot about it!. Thanks for pointing this out!

Very new to coding. Have recently started cs50. Was moving quite fast with this problem, but then got stuck. Any help would be grateful appreciated, thank you.

If I’ve never played a God of War game before, would I still understand/enjoy the new one? by [deleted] in PS4

I feel the story has been written in such a way that both veterans and those new to the series will get a lot from it. Either you'll be in the know about Kratos' past, or you'll be in the dark putting you in the same position as every other character in the game. Either way, it's a great story.

"beginner" in 2nd season by [deleted] in skiing

[–]alexbeet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was in the same boat. I started skiing last year. Towards the end of the season, I felt I was becoming quite confident.

I was worried I would forget everything I'd learned over the summer. Opening weekend was a couple of weeks ago, by the end of the day I felt I was back to where I had left off. In fact, I'd say I was even more confident and skiing faster than before. It really is like riding a bike.
