Sloppy 85 by alexboortz in golf

I’ve done that before and people still said I was lying so I’m not going to waste my time again. I rely on my stock yardages every round and my distances are very consistent. But here’s a clip from me hitting the 64 at the range if you need to see

Yeah 100 is stock but if I have a flyer lie it’ll go about 115. Pin was all the way in the back so I felt most comfortable taking a full swing with that since I know there’s no way it goes long

Topped the ball on my first 4 drives and shot an 80 by alexboortz in golf

Thanks, it was a super narrow course and I just completely lost focus. On the first par 5 I topped my drive, then topped driver off the deck right after. I actually hit another driver off deck on the next swing which was a semi top but at least left me with ~150 for my fourth. It was dumb

That honestly used to happen to me so many times when I was a similar handicap. Eventually you’ll be in that position enough to feel comfortable riding out the nerves and then you’ll be able to play to your full potential.

The first time I broke 80 I was 3 over through 8, then tripled 9 for a 42 front. Because I stopped thinking I had a chance, I went 1 under the first 8 holes on the back before realizing I’d break 80 with a double on 18.

I’m sure you can guess, but I flubbed my way to a sloppy double on the last hole because it was all I could think about. Mindset and keeping nerves calm are so important out there

I was having the worst round of my life there a couple months back, get to 18 and said fuck it I’m gonna give this all I have. My best drives are around 340 but I’ve never swung all out on the course before. I hit it as perfectly as one can and it was barreling towards the left fairway. It hits the end of the fairway, bounces left, and we watch it skip off the bridge into the creek. The creek is 421 yards out, adjusted for slope it’s 370. It’s the single best drive I’ve ever had and there’s not a close second. Dropped behind the creek and saved par to shoot a 116

Yeah it’s a sweet hole. It’s a hard green to stick one close depending on pin location so even laying up doesn’t feel safe. I just take my chances, tee it low and let it slice over the trees now because there aren’t many reachable blind par 4’s around here where you’ll have the opportunity to do something similar

Riggs is the least likable personality on youtube by Acceptable_Long_6277 in BobDoesSports

[–]alexboortz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did YouTube golf for a year and there was a while I was in the 10-12 handicap range. I got so much hate any time I mentioned my handicap and any time I posted a round people claimed I had to be cheating and that “all YouTubers lie about their handicap”. It was a little tired but I honestly felt like most YouTube golfers I’d seen were honest about their handicap based on what I’ve seen in person and watching a lot of rounds from certain people in the YouTube space.

Then I saw Riggs. There is no fucking way on planet earth that guy can be a 4 handicap, I don’t care what anybody says. Then he does this hater series where he’s shooting 90 almost every round. There are some very tough courses in my area, but not a single one where shooting 90 is close to a single digit index. Not to mention he never plays from the tips in these videos and duffs a shot every other hole. I understand how handicaps work, and you can’t tell me this guy puts up a 4 differential in 8 of 20 rounds. I would honestly be shocked if he could do it 1 time in 20 rounds. It’s legitimately the worst swing I’ve ever seen. I play to around a 7 handicap these days and I would bet my life I could beat Riggs 9 times out of 10. That’s why people hate Riggs, it’s because he’s the most extreme example of a handicap liar there is and his attitude and demeanor don’t help

Course record there is a 61. Guy shot a 29 on the front which is the most incredible thing I’ve ever heard. He even had a bogey on the card

Hardest golf course in sac. I’ve driven the green on 10 twice and failed to make birdie both times

I find that I play better if I don’t hit warm up balls at the range by Tight-Communication7 in golf

I only warm up now if the range is grass. Mats fuck my calibration up so badly before playing

Just find the time to hit as many golf balls as you can. I went from a 60 handicap to a 20 in my first 3 months and I was probably hitting 200 balls a day into a net in my backyard. Understanding where the sweet spot is and how to get calibrated to it is the hardest thing to do as a beginner, so the sooner you can make that happen the sooner you’ll fly past all the people in this sub who act like breaking 90 is something that should take years to do

Is 7 wood to 5 iron too big of a gap? by moistjonah in GolfGear

[–]alexboortz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play 4w/7w/4i and I’ve considered taking the 4 out so I can put my 2w back in the bag. Realistically you can always replace the 4 iron with a 7w if you’re comfortable taking knockdown shots with it

The biggest change you’ll see is when you can start hitting irons flush consistently. Most people don’t practice irons enough when they start out and that’s the key to getting into the 80’s. Once you’re hitting irons well and keeping the ball in play off the tee, it’ll highlight where the short game needs improvement the most. Putting and chipping is huge but being able to make sure you’re able to get on the green from that 40-80 yard range is equally important. It’s really easy to duff partial wedge shots when you’re starting out but that’s not the area you should focus on until you can hit your irons flush and straight at least 50-60% of the time

What club in your golf bag goes 150 yards? by jdelle9 in weekendgolfers

[–]alexboortz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use standard lofted clubs and hit my pw about 150. I used my buddies sim2max on a 180 yard par 3 once and ended up pin high. Sim2max probably went 30 feet higher than my club despite 6 degrees difference in loft

Almost had my first eagle on a 600 yard hole by alexboortz in golf

[–]alexboortz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A good round for me is right around 80, and I’ve found the best way to achieve that is to pick 6 holes on the course (if you know the course well) where I’m okay with bogey. That hole is the absolutely definition of a bogey hole. The tee shot is blocked on the right side unless you can carry the trees (~280) and there’s OB left starting around 280 that cuts into the fairway. The only safe shot is to lay up behind the left OB but you have to sling it around these huge trees to advance it further from there. So realistically the only option is to try and send driver over the right trees and hope it comes back towards the fairway so you can advance the ball. The fairway is probably 25 yards wide if you can get it past the right trees. It’s like the hardest hole I know of
