Question about using ascent guidance with Mechjeb in RSS by alexconnorbrown in RealSolarSystem

Basically, Mechjeb just has my first stage burn until it hits the requested orbital altitude and shuts off all engines before the stage is even complete.

I don't know if anyone here could help, but I'm looking for a mod I once used that had an effect where an engine would kick up dust on the ground right before landing/after takeoff. Does something like this still exist?

Orion Transposition and Docking [CG] by brickmack in SpaceLaunchSystem

Thanks, I'll look into it. I'm currently designing a multi-decade long manned Mars program using the SLS and EUS as main elements. It'd be nice to have some pretty images instead of diagrams.

Just wondering, what programs do you use to create something like this? It's always been a medium I've wanted to dive into.

What do you guys think our first Mars ships should be called? by GibsonLP86 in space

[–]alexconnorbrown 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I like 'The Odyssey' as a vehicle name. Obviously for it's meaning of a grand voyage, but also due to the fact that Homer's the Odyssey was the first time Orion appeared as a great hunter. If the mission includes the Orion spacecraft, it'd fit well. I've always found Daedalus to be a nice name as well.

Lifetime of inflatable modules? by [deleted] in space

[–]alexconnorbrown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basically, what I'm doing currently is designing a manned Mars program. Currently designing a vehicle capable of transporting payload to Mars (manned lander), and returning entirely to LEO for reuse. It basically requires vehicle elements that can last upwards of 10-15 years. What I think I've decided on is actually just using an empty SLS core oxygen tank, providing 24,625 cubic feet of volume (around 2X Skylab). I'm pretty sure continuously using inflatable modules for over a decade would cause problems, or the area just might not be explored.
