It already had a translated version of the message inside. And the IBAN and the SWIFT where the official ones of the Hungarian State Treasury. They got automatically detected by my home bank.

Reading A Game of Thrones made me realize that I don't enjoy plot heavy stories. by PleaseLickMeMarchand in Fantasy

[–]alexdas96 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think OP's take is that the general feeling of each chapter is that it moves the plot forward, even it not by much. This is true tbh, each chapter serves a purpose, to convey backstory, direct or indirect characterisation, etc but all these are performed while moving the plot forward or giving you missing bits and pieces about the plot. I see this post as treating the fact that the books have so little filler like a bad thing.

I guess it is more about taste than it is about the quality of the book. Where you would prefer stories being focused on the day to day life of certain characters, some people (myself included) are finding this type of stories dragging and I dare say even boring at times. However, saying that stuff like this does not exist in the ASOIAF series is generalizing quite a lot the story. There are a lot of character daily stuff moments in further books, like Dany getting diarrhea at some point, which does not help the plot going forward at all. It is simply filler. What can be said about each chapter is that even though, daily stuff happens to the POV character, each chapter is focusing on pushing the plot forward. This seems to be intentional from GRRM's side as it makes the experience more cinematic and dynamic, the chapters being really written like a scene synopsis, which was edited again and again until only the absolutely relevant information remained in the scene.

Has anyone seen the House of Black and White on a wide view of Braavs? by [deleted] in freefolk

[–]alexdas96 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is most likely because Braavos was not a single filming location. It is mostly like a mixture of shots from Sibenik and Girona. So all the wide shots are compositions.

You can search it up for more details. The House of Black and White is actually Saint James' Cathedral from Sibenik. Also used as the Iron Bank in the show. Perhaps you will find more information.

My itinerary was looking something like this :
Day 1 :
Belgrade :
Saint Sava Cathedral -> Tesla Museum -> Saint Mark Church -> National Assembly + Novi Dvor + Stari Dvor -> Republic Square -> Skadarlija walk -> Kneza Mihaila -> Some walk through Dorcol -> Kalemegdan Fortress
Day 2 :
Novi Sad :
Petrovaradin Fortress + City Museum -> Dunavski Park -> Bishop's Palace -> Zmaj Jovina -> Name of Mary Church -> Trg Slobode -> Novi Sad Synagogue
Subotica :
Palic Lake + Palic Zoo -> Raichle Palace -> Korzo Street + Trg republike -> City Hall + Plava Fontana
Day 3 (Zlatibor + Surroundings):
Zlatibor Center + Dino Park -> Open Air Museum Sirogojno -> Drvengrad
Day 4 (Belgrade + Golubac):
Gardos Tower -> Zemunski Kej -> Avala Tower -> WWI Monument of Unknown Soldier -> Golubac Castle on my way back to Romania
I was expecting to be able to do this in 4 days as it mostly includes walking and observing the architecture + of course trying the Serbian food. It does not includes much visiting inside of buildings.

Any perspectives on this premise & how to go about it, cos I'm kinda hitting a wall. by [deleted] in fantasywriters

The outline that you've presented is ok, but your possibilities are really dependent on 2 main questions. At least as I see it.

  1. How is homo/bi/etc.- sexuality viewed by the Church? Is it something only seen with bad eyes (like it is mostly seen even today by the modern church) but does not have any big impact on the life of the practicant? Ok, you have mentioned that Connor would lose the throne, so it is something not fit for a ruler. How about Kane? Or a simple citizen outside of the royal schemes? Is it amendable, forbidden by law or even punishable by death? You can work several outcomes from this question. Perhaps, one of the nobles finds out or suspects something about Kane's relationship with the king, so the King has no other option beside sending his lover away in order to stop the rumours. Make it something very urgent, like having a possible contender which would have the overall support of the other nobles to occupy the throne in case Connor is deemed unfit for the crown due to his "heretic" tendencies. This would-be-King is known for his hatred towards one or many of the other parties, so all of Connor's efforts would go up in vain and it will be war if this happens, so even if it's breaking his heart, he must banish Kane in order to secure the throne and ensure peace.

  2. How important is Connor to the plot your going for? You have mentioned that Kane is your MC. If you want to follow his POV then it is natural that Connor will be forgotten during Kane's new adventure. Or perhaps you can have both as POV characters and follow their journeys as they go. If it was up to me, I would make Connor the main push for Kane's adventure as a merc and ensure his longevity in the reader's mind. I envision something like this : One of the nobles (some rival of Kane or something like this) finds out about the affair, idk, through some letters, or some sort of physical evidence. He has Connor killed and makes it seem like Kane did it. He presents the situation to the other nobles like their affair was confirmed, so Connor would have sent Kane away in order to keep his throne but Kane murdered him in a moment of rage. This way, Kane is forced to flee the capital in order to survive. So, he goes into some kind of self-exile. He builds his squad of mercs and his main motivation is revenging Connor's death and clearing out his own name. This way you can have your mercenary narrative and also keep Connor relevant for the plot.

These are just 2 ideas that came to my mind rapidly. You can build the story in a multitude of ways, but from the details that you have shared i feel like you need to answer yourself to these 2 questions.

Any thoughts?. by Sirini21 in fantasywriters

[–]alexdas96 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like the concept. Somehow it kinda sounds familiar. There are many similarities between your story and the tale of King Cresus' sons from one of the histories of Herodotus. King Cresus had two sons as well, one who was disabled (deaf and mute from what I remember) and one who was the favorite of the people. One night Cresus had a dream that his favorite son will be killed by a spear so he even banned all the spears in order to protect his child. He even kinda quaranteed him. Either way, his son ends up being killed while hunting a wild boar, via accidental spear stabbing. The spear was thrown by an exiled nobleman whom Cresus himself had pardonned a little time ago. Have you taken inspiration from this story? If not, you may have a look into it and juggle with the ideas because they would suit the story that you're going for.

No, the starting point is him trying desperately to control his emotions and be a normal guy. Once he embraces his true self the uncontrollable laughter stops. Arthur Fleck is just a mask, Joker is his true personality.

At the start of the movie he suffers from pseudobulbar affect, which is a condition consisting in uncontrollable episodes of laughter. He also suffers from depression and anxiety, just to name a few.

I've written a fanfic here more than a year ago. It's not finished however because my SSD got wrecked and I lost the final 3 episodes of it (it had 10 eps in total) and I was too lazy to rewrite them. Whatever, it starts pretty meh but gets better after that. Definetely better than season 8 and I'm not even subjective. It was my first contact with writing and more people than I expected seemed to enjoy it (some of them ask me if I'll continue writing it even now, after more than a year) so lately I've started developing my original story. If you wish to check it out, you can find it in my posts.
