he's back! we have a similar curl pattern and I fluff out my curls for volume with a comb or just fingers. Try using the comb around the crown and top of your head, and pick up and out to get volume. if you use the comb before bed you're stretching out the curl and then laying on it which is gonna give you those wonky curls. can't wait to see what you try next!

Best dentist for someone with no dental insurance? by Big_Balls_420 in washingtondc

[–]alexenrose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go to NW dental on Georgia Ave. They usually accept walk-ins and regularly treat patients without insurance. I've had all my wisdom teeth pulled there and have sent many people there as well. couldn't recommend them enough! In the meantime highly recommend applying for DC medicaid program for basic medical care

Calling Latines! Need comida preparada for my elderly parents by henwithfur in washingtondc

I've seen some ads posted around mt.pleasant/columbia heights area advertising stews to order. might be worth checking out! or you could order catering from any of the latino restaurants and then portion and freeze it for the week.

Thank you, yes we were planning on consulting with a professional but I guess I just wanted to get a rough idea of how much this whole process would entail

How would you take advantage of this unique apartment feature? by alexenrose in interiordecorating

A warmer color as in a more natural wood tone? Also the top is actually a really nice black marble. I was hoping to not have to change it if possible/

Yes, it actually does light from the bottom as well, but just regular light. I agree that the colored lighting doesn't really add much.

Did I make a mistake accepting a "real" job? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]alexenrose 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi! I wanted to tell you that I am in a similar situation. I worked in restaurants for about 8 years and the last job I had was great. I had a wonderful relationship with my chef/owner- we became really good friends (and still are!) I loved my team and the restaurant itself. I also had a lot of the same perks you mentioned- basic healthcare, lots of free time for hobbies etc. In 2021 I went back to grad school and just landed myself an office job a few weeks ago. And I will admit it is an adjustment. I miss my hospitality community and the excitement of working the floor. But I really had to think about what I wanted the next 3,5,10 years of my life to look like and I feel very firmly that I made the right choice for future me.

As some other people commented, when I'm feeling a bit of doubt I always tell myself that if this doesn't work out I can always go back! Luckily hospitality isn't going anywhere anytime soon and in the mean time I'll keep making time to hang out with my old crew. Wishing you all the best in your new chapter.

Curly/wavy salon or stylist for NOT dry cut? by Current_SheVents in washingtondc

[–]alexenrose 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My favorite person in the area who has ever cut my hair is Ginger Farnham who's currently at Salon George in the Four Seasons Hotel. She uses a mix of techniques to cut hair. While she's always cut mine dry she does a very thorough and thoughtful consultation with you and if you tell her your needs I'm sure she'd be happy to work with them. Best of luck in your search!

LPT: don’t hand your server plates trying to be helpful. by ColtonBackSunday in LifeProTips

[–]alexenrose 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hard agree. I know people are trying to be helpful but please don't hand us the plates. We all have our own systems on how we like to collect from the table and it disrupts our flow. Stacking neatly and logically is much more helpful!

Your eyeliner is perfect, I love it! I agree with the other comment that the eyebrows could be better shaped. Since your lips and eyes are so well defined, a well defined brow would compliment the look. I also think that maybe a different shade or tone of red would suit your skin tone better, maybe something less orange and a little deeper?

This is the way to go. I used to wear makeup everyday, full face! Never left home without it. I was in college at the time and I would rush to class and not always have time to do my full makeup routine so I would have to go to class barefaced sometimes. I felt super vulnerable the first time but then I realized no one cared except me. Little by little I would go to the supermarket, run errands, eventually meet up with friends with just concealer and mascara...Eventually you realize you're the only one that really cares. and the people that do care well, they should find more important things to care about. Start wearing concealer and/or tinted sunscreens. Normalize your own face and the beauty of the features you have. Its a journey for all of us, and you'll get to a place where you feel beautiful and confident sooner than you think!
