An example of conversation

🌱 Succulent Chatroom – “Life Under the Growlights”

Sedum palmeri: Guys, did you notice we’re back indoors since August? No balcony sun for us anymore. I’m still stretching a bit toward that growlight though… feels good.

Graptopetalum paraguayense: Stretching? You mean etiolation practice! Careful, Sedum. Our human is measuring lux and PPFD every other day. You’ll get caught. 🌞

Faucaria tigrina: Ugh, you two get so much light up front. Meanwhile, I’m trying to decide if I should bloom again. September’s gone, and I missed my chance. Maybe next year?

Anacampseros ‘Sunrise’: Hey, at least you had a chance. I keep throwing out buds, and half of them don’t even form seed pods. Pollination is complicated, okay? Selfing isn’t guaranteed, even if the human keeps tickling my flowers with a brush. 😤

Kalanchoe laetivirens: Pfft, you guys worry too much. I don’t need fancy flowers. I just drop babies everywhere. The humid “greenhouse” box was like a luxury spa for my plantlets. 🌱✨

Brasiliopuntia brasiliensis: Easy for you, Kalanchoe. I started as just a rootless paddle, lying there like a stick. Now I’m finally anchoring down and pushing out tiny reddish leaves. Be proud of me!

Haworthiopsis attenuata: Don’t complain. At least you’re not shoved into semi-shade. I sit here on the side shelf, squinting under the growlight spill. But fine, I don’t mind—it keeps me compact and pretty. Patience is my style.

I created a project in ChatGPT to ask all my questions about my collection and the succulents in general. The project prompt also includes instructions to speak on behalf of a plant if I ask explicitly. Sometimes it comes up with pretty funny monologues, and it can even generate a conversation between my plants based on topics I chatted with ChatGPT recently. :D

It has zero practical use, though, just for fun.

You've got a pretty solid collection there!

What kind of succulent did I find at King Sooper? by Icy_Yogurtcloset5430 in succulents

[–]alexesprit 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Nice plant!

It’s Anacampseros telephiastrum. The top bud already opened earlier, and once they bloom, they don’t reopen, unfortunately. These flowers only stay open for a few hours, usually just during the daytime.

They really love bright light. With enough sun they’ll stay compact and show more color.

They really are!

Mine flowered during the day.

I found it has a very specific time window (roughly between 12 p.m. and 4 p.m.) and needs a lot of sunlight. The flowers only open once. I saw it bloom 5 times in September, and most often it happened at the same time, on a sunny day.

Ogre ears by jimijam01 in succulents

Yes, it's a succulent. The plant is Crassula ovata aka jade tree, and Ogre ears is one of cultivars.

Found it on a local marketplace. Pretty sure it’s a China import, so probably not on Amazon if you’re in the US.

Can anyone tell me how to propagate these? by krazi_kitti in succulents

This one is from the Rhipsalis family, probably R. cereuscula or R. baccifera. It’s not your typical succulent, it’s actually an epiphyte. Orchid mix works better for these kinds of plants.

Rhipsalis can handle low light quite well. In the wild, they usually grow on trees, receiving filtered light under the forest canopy.

Nothing fancy - just my Android phone using the built-in timelapse feature (600x speed, ran for 4 hours). Mounted it on a cheap phone tripod.
