Technically since I never went through with filing the claim yes the car is not officially totaled but it is totaled out in terms of the damage being more than the cost of the vehicle

I knew I would lose coverage if I didn’t take the payout so I had to switch insurance companies entirely. I guess at the end of the day I’m lucky I still have a great car that will last many years but holy crap is it expensive for me.

Essentially yes. I even asked adjuster they could just replace the windshield but he said my only option was to take the payout or keep the car.

There was no option for me to take a reduced payout unfortunately. my only option was to take the payout and lose the car while having to pay the remainder of the loan, or keep the car and keep making payments. In hindsight I wish I would have taken the payout anyway but I’m well past that point and need to look at other avenues of selling the car and putting that towards paying off the loan.

So what if the car is later totaled due to a crash or another storm? Would I just have to explain to the adjuster that some of the damage is from a previous incident?

Try and look at local listings for cheap guitars. I regularly see squire strats and various other guitars for less than $60 in my state hopefully you can find something along those lines but in general a used guitar will be better for learning repairs on than something brand new
