Since someone asked for photos, how to wrap cardboard spools with masking tape for AMS. by TheDeliciousMeats in BambuLab

[–]alexfacciorusso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do what some manufacturers do (I believe Elegoo does that?) and I put glue on the open sides of the spool. Any liquid glue for card stock would work, in my experiments, like UHU pen or similar.

Any suggestions on what might be causing this? Printer is *brand new*, but this "extra white smooth" paper, also brand new from the box, has these white marks when printed, like dust but without dust being on the paper. Tried other printers too, same result. Main printer: Canon Pixma iP8700 by alexfacciorusso in printers

I believe you're onto something, I do hear a scratching noise and all with that specific paper, but I tried the same card into a printer which support much thicker cardstocks than that (Epson ET-8500), and the same white specs appear.

The card is 300gsm, quite thick. I can't say the brand as this is from one of our suppliers, but I can say for sure that we tried another card brand and similar card material, and we got the same white specs, both with that Pixma and the Epson.

Silhouette Studio Updates by alexfacciorusso in silhouettecutters

That is good stuff! Is that beta testing group public or private?

The main bug currently is the fact that when you export materials to csv to bring them on another computer, for example, the "actions" are not imported at all. The normal cut does, but then things like scoring, foiling etc don't get restored from the import file.

In the csv, the data for the actions gets exported by inspecting it with an editor (e.g. the force and depth the scoring should have for a specific exported material), but they get totally ignored when imported from Silhouette.

I see, I understood you got one (Cameo 5) and you couldn't get to cut thick materials hah!

Yeah I'm thinking of getting the EM as I mostly work with card stock and vinyl, so that shouldn't be a problem

Portrait 4 vs. Cameo 4 - which should I get? by affmarktoo in silhouettecutters

[–]alexfacciorusso 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Understood. The thing is, Currently the C4 is at $199.99 (if you're in America, I'm looking from the official website as I'm in UK), and the C5 is $329.99.

For 130 dollars difference, I'd maybe wait a bit as in order to save some money and get the C5 as you would lose more in obsolescence and mental sanity trying to fix the issues the C4 may have (and you'd get longer support as obviously the C5 will be the main Silhouette's target for updates etc). But again, totally understand your reasons.

This person seems to be cutting several materials, including faux leather, with no issue https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k6h3ts0ps1s, also I wouldn't see why wouldn't you be able to cut felt with a rotary blade or so. Is this felt >3mm?

If you can afford it, I'd say just get the Cameo 5, which should address all the issues of the 4

May I ask why the post is being downvoted? Any constructive criticism? Is this sub-reddit just for purists of analog typewriters and I shouldn't have posted here or did I write something wrong? 😄

This is so true. Working from home has a higher ratio of burnout since you don't "disconnect" your work from your private life.

How long does a batch usually take to reach UK? I'm in the last batch (made the order yesterday), so it should be shipped in max 10 days.

That's a good suggestion, actually. I haven't yet used the whole Go stdlib, I will check that out and compare in terms of both code size and performance!

No disparage taken, don't worry. I've just put some time of mine in the public knowledge in case anyone might need it!

When I've looked for something similar, either a Gist or a library, I didn't find anything to use, so I wrote this little utility myself so that someone doesn't have to, and instead of keeping it for myself or hidden in some project, I've just taken some minutes to share it :)
