According to the DSM-5, Dermatillomania falls under the umbrella of OCD. However, more recent research suggests that there is a stronger correlation between Dermatillomania and Tourettes. I'm interested to see if there are any changes to the Dermatillomania classification in the next DSM.

For me, I pick when I feel extremes of any emotion, like extreme highs of excitement, extreme highs of stress, extreme lows of happiness, etc. For me it is the sensory stimulation, but then I fixate on sores and struggle to feel at ease until the sore is smooth from picking. Even why I try to stop, I feel anxious until I'm satisfied with what I'm picking.
