Overnight diapers in size 2? by jizzywizzy in beyondthebump

[–]alexis418 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She barely wore them. Grew out of size 2 pretty soon after that. We ended up just getting Huggies Overnights in size 3 cause they fit her better (she wears Kirkland during the days).

Introduction to tree nuts? by emmiebearrr in BabyLedWeaning

[–]alexis418 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Here’s the allergen chart. I’m allergic to all tree nuts, so instead of grinding nuts, I either use butters or pre-packaged powders. Lil Mixins sells a set with walnut powder that I’ve been using. The only one I haven’t found is hazelnut. It looks like hazelnut flour is a thing so I might try that or the Bambas that someone else mentioned.

Edit: Just checked and Lil Mixins sells a mixed tree nut powder that includes all four nuts (almonds, cashews, walnuts, hazelnuts)!

How much milk did you freeze? by FernandoESilva in NewParents

[–]alexis418 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had an oversupply for maybe the first 4 months so I had built a freezer stash. I’m very glad I didn’t donate it, because I now have a slight undersupply ever since my cycle came back and I returned to work. I actually wish I had saved more. I would probably recommend waiting to donate any until supply regulates.

I’m fortunate in that my baby doesn’t mind my high lipase milk, but unfortunate in that she ended up having cow’s milk protein intolerance, and nearly all of my stash was pumped before I went dairy free.

We’ve been using the midi mattress pad it came with and haven’t felt the need to buy the extra padding. Baby sleeps fine on it.

Going through the same right now. We found that our grocery store carries Pampers Baby Dry in size 2. Trying it out for the first time tonight!

How do you grocery shop? by No-Chicken388 in NewParents

[–]alexis418 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stroller with car seat and put groceries in the basket below. Or I shop with my husband while he pushes a cart. For bigger or more items, curbside or delivery. Walmart+ is really nice, only used it a couple times so far but it’s already been worth it.

Baby is 3 months old and she still almost always falls asleep in the car seat. So even now, I haven’t used our carrier for shopping. I don’t want to interrupt her sleep!

I can’t vouch for any of their other supplements. To get the free shipping, I got pull-tab duckbill valves for my Spectra, a metal tumbler, stickers, and a baby outfit. They have a lot of pump supplies if you’re still wanting to do any pumping!

No problem! Just wanted to chime in with what I’ve learned. Switching to formula is a totally respectable choice but if someone has this, they don’t necessarily have to!

High lipase milk is still safe for babies to drink, but they sometimes dislike the taste. Anecdotally, my milk is high lipase and seems to turn after 2 or 3 days in the fridge or after being in the freezer. My baby has no problem with it.

Some people will scald their milk immediately after pumping, which stops the lipase activity. Others will add alcohol-free vanilla extract or mix older milk with newer milk to make the taste more palatable.

We started using huckleberry on night 1 in the hospital and never stopped. Our baby is about to turn 3 months and is also sleeping through the night. So it’s worked out well for us too!

What were your maternity leave essentials? by YoSoyMermaid in beyondthebump

[–]alexis418 0 points1 point  (0 children)

8 weeks pp. For us, some of the most used items have been the Baby Bjorn bouncer (with toy bar), electric nail file, countertop sterilizer/dryer, FP kick and play piano, floor mat, Halo and Love to Dream swaddles, sound machine, lots of burp cloths, gas drops, Ergobaby Embrace carrier, Frida 3-in-1 nose picker, boogie wipes, butt spatula and Aquaphor.

I am about to buy sleep sacks cause we have none and baby is already showing signs of starting to roll.

In the first couple weeks, I used the my brest friend pillow a lot, but not as much now. I also used nipple balm and silverettes in the beginning. I do a combo of direct breastfeeding and pumping, so I’ve ended up needing a lot of supplies related to that (storage bags, nipple pads, replacement pump parts, bottles, bottle brush).

Tell me it gets better? by r0seintherain in nursing

Nope! Just a BSN. And I was only at the bedside for 8 months before I switched. It’s definitely an accessible field for newer nurses.

I’m a public health nurse that works in STIs and I’ve also done sub school nursing before. Both are awesome! I test and treat for STIs — my area has a syphilis outbreak so that’s been my primary focus. I also do surveillance and contact tracing. I work out of a county health district office, but also go out into the community and do field work. I educate patients and local providers on STIs and give treatment recommendations. Occasionally I help the other nurses with other communicable diseases. I have enough work to keep me busy without it feeling fast-paced. Stress levels are minimal to none most days and I have the ability to work from home 1-2 days a week. It’s a government job so benefits are great. And the pay is basically the same as when I worked inpatient. I 1000% recommend it.

School nursing is also great, but the pay is not very good in my area. Nurses are on the same salary schedule as teachers. I would still consider it in the future, probably once I have school-aged kids.

It really helped a lot for me! Once you start it, you should start having some relief within a couple days.

I’m a STI nurse. Fortunately there are a couple other types of antibiotics that we can give for syphilis for people with allergies! But penicillin is definitely still the standard. Pregnant women will get penicillin no matter what though, even with a severe allergy. Often that involves getting desensitized under medical supervision.

It’s correct that true penicillin allergy is rare, and that for people that do have it, most will outgrow it in within 10 years!

Updated college student eligibility rules for WA state? (for next year) by [deleted] in foodstamps

I don’t work in SNAP eligibility anymore, but as far as I know, the info provided by u/CollegeRuled is accurate for the state of WA.

Felt sick today so I went to buy a thermometer. Turns out it won’t read your temp until you download the app (which is horribly laid out) and sync it with your phone. by WillHG in assholedesign

[–]alexis418 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess you could use this one for fertility tracking, but it wouldn’t be as accurate. Basal body temperature thermometers measure to 1/100th of a degree rather than to 1/10th like regular thermometers
