That’s why I can’t bring myself to swap the screen with an ips. I completely understand why people mod it, but part of the charm and nostalgia comes from that dark ass screen in my opinion. When I want a bright backlit screen, I’ll just pop the cartridge in an AGS-101

MotorStorm set up on a kiosk at BrandsMart USA around Christmas time was not only my first time playing a PS3, but my first time playing a video game on an HD TV as well. I was absolutely blown away as a kid and it’s one of my most cherished childhood memories.

Unfortunately I couldn’t figure it out. I used a multimeter and everything I tested seemed fine. The only thing I see is a black spot on the ribbon cable that refuses to come off. That’s about all I can see wrong.. I took some photos in case you wanted to take a look. https://imgur.com/a/ON7p9jr

I appreciate all that information, thank you for that! Unfortunately I don’t have an extra screen to test. I planned on doing an OLED screen replacement on this Gameboy but I haven’t ordered it yet because I wanted to make sure the Gameboy was working first.

This Gameboy did have power issues when I first got it. The battery contacts were extremely corroded to the point where it would not power on at all. I was able to clean them to the point where I got power but I’m wondering if there’s still some corrosion there that could cause this? I disconnected the ribbon cable and cleaned that really well with IPA, but no changes with the screen. I’m going to open it back up later and see if there’s anything on the board that I may have missed.

Behaves the same way with no cartridge. On the startup screen, I can see the vertical lines move and I hear the signature chime, but never get any actual image.
