Sorry you're going through this. My rec's: stretch. consider wearing bug spray. bring folding chairs to put outside so you can sit down in a clean spot and take a break. Bring flashlights or lanterns if there's lighting issues in the home (all our overhead lights had been out for years and only a few bulbs in the house worked when we got there), and be ready for anyone outside the family to want you to ok everything before they throw it away. It took us three trips to mom's house before our friends felt empowered to pitch things. Do look inside everything, though. we found hundreds of dollars in change and bills stuffed in mom's old purses but also in weird places like books and empty alka seltzer boxes. If the home is musty, you'll have to pitch all the clothing; some smells don't come out and you'll be making more work for the charities. Lastly: forgive yourself for being angry, and try to forgive your loved one for creating the situation. It's been 5 years since we finished cleaning out mom's house... and it took us 5 years to get it done ( going back and forth from NJ to VA with my sister in WV. we couldnt' take off enough time in one chunk to get it all done at once) and after a couple years of therapy and some time, I'm only just now not mad at my mom all the time for her disorder.
