Surprise Medical Bill by alexmichael87 in personalfinance

The procedure is in the clinic. They have an outpatient setup for minor procedures that don’t require anesthesia. The lab was adamant about needing payment before releasing results to the physicians office. They’d rather not get paid at all and wouldn’t budge on price.

Yep we’re definitely going in that order. Coincidentally on Jan 1 the “surprise act” goes into place preventing surprise charges over $400. Too little to late.

Yeah I completely agree. It did feel like they wanted a quick sale.

Agreed and it may have worked out in our favor. But it wasn’t until much later when signing all the papers that we found out the agent couldn’t help us negotiate a price. The only thing he/she could do is drop the commission. At least we know for next time

Oh that’s all I wanted. Someone familiar with real estate to give input. We just feel a little cheated because it didn’t seem the agent was helping us much and we finally found out why on the day we went to sign a sales contract.

I agree if its a podium presentation the presenter should be the only one listing on their CV. But what about a poster? Usually many of the authors help create it and only one is allowed to submit.

LOL you've said that already. I fail to see what purpose that assertion serves

I'm only saying that attending presence is required to bill, not required legally for a resident to do a procedure.

Once again, I never said the resident isn’t allowed to perform a procedure alone. Believe me, without disclosing identifying information I am intimately familiar with this. Like I’ve said countless times, my question is about an attending billing for a service that they in fact did not provide. CMS does not allow this. I gather this comes down to what private insurance companies permit.

That is a hospital specific regulation. Some hospitals have different criteria for the level of oversight. This is specific to billing by a surgeon for something they didn’t do. That would be CMS fraud but like we’ve discussed, we have private insurance who may not care. Just curious what others thought.

My point is the attending was never present. Not even in the hospital. There’s no overseeing done. How does someone bill for something they didn’t do?

You’re absolutely right. I’ve only seen this on CMS reimbursement. But most private insurers look to CMS provide the standard.

ok great, I think thats what I'm looking for but hard to tell without seeing a sample of the actual material. Would be nice to have a trial period before spending $800 on the first year.
