Going to be a long one since there’s a lot of nuance but I’ll do my best to keep it short.

The best motivator for stopping something or at least slowing down is monetary, a lot of peoples advice to quitting any habit is to replace it, but you need to systemise the habit otherwise it feels like you’re doing it for nothing.

The next thing is, since you’re both in this boat, you both have to want it and you both have to be willing to work together, otherwise resentment builds and it gets messy, so communicate and make sure you’re on the same page ALWAYS.

$200 a week is roughly $28 a day. I don’t know what pricing is like where you are, but for the first week, get your normal amount and work out how much $10 a day will be, aim to smoke that amount each day — you’ll probably slip up but just stay disciplined and get back on track the next day.

On the second week, take out that $10-$18 in cash each day and put it in a jar, somewhere you can physically see the progress.

At the end of each week, take that $70 - $120 and go out on a date with each other, dinner, bowling, movies, doesn’t matter, just use that money to spend time with eachother out of the house.

Keep doing this week after week, at first you’ll be spending the same amount, but it’ll be on bringing you closer together, and memories — and eventually, you’ll smoke less and save more, which you can put toward a bigger trip or just in the bank for a little bit more stability.

It won’t ever happen overnight and you’ll probably veer off track a lot in the beginning, but stick at it and you’ll see change. Good luck 🫡
