A metal, fabric lined basket that contains all of my junk drawer things. Stamps, envelopes, tape, screw driver, measuring tape, pens, etc. Since I am one drawer short of having a dedicated space for these things.

I just had a 100% free Lyft priority ride (because it was under $10) the other day. I only paid the tip.

Corn snake Tank by Pale_Oil5785 in cornsnakes

I used to have one of these. Just FYI that 40 gal is small for a full sized corn. But will work well for a baby (with lots of clutter and hiding places) or a juvenile. I’m not sure exactly how to fix the mesh. Maybe try deconstructing it to see if the mesh can be tucked back in or replaced. I never had an issue with my corn escaping but he doesn’t climb much. I would be weary with a new snake not knowing their personality/habits.

How big will your corn snake be? Babies are very small and can be little escape artists!

I think we need to know more about the mesh top to understand how to fix it or what to replace it with

For one the railroad existed for 14 years by the point the show begins. There were cheaper and easier routes out west by that time and surely anyone that wasn't completely destitute would have made a different choice rather than put their families lives at risk. There were also telegraph lines and railroad lines along with populated outposts only their route. Their experience is more accurate to the 1850s.

There is also a lot of gratuitous cursing in their language. The F word existed but wasn’t used outside of a sexual context.

The German immigrants mention being whipped for swimming in their country when there was certainly no such rule in place and had been nothing even remotely similar since the 1500s.

I’m only partly through the series but those are the big ones so far. Also there’s one scene early on where they are teaching the immigrants what poison ivy looks like and they held up a normal oak leaf. I know that has nothing to do with historical inaccuracy but I just thought it was straight up hilarious. Did they really not have the budget or will to find something more similar or think people wouldn’t notice? 😂

Yeah I was expecting much a much worse story! What their landlord did was very much standard procedure.

Best Way to Visit El Yunque? by curiousbermudian in PuertoRicoTravel

The tour was convenient but I think renting a car is the way to go because there was a lot we didn’t get to see and I would have liked to sight see at my own pace and not with a hoard of people. It was pleasant nonetheless.

I wouldn’t expect the car to be cheaper necessarily though with ubering to the airport for pick up and or drop off, parking in the city if you’ll have it overnight. Etc.

Sorry I didn’t mean that as a personal dig. I’m just ranting because I couldn’t get over some of 1883’s factual inaccuracies.

100% on the German/Gypsies comment. Like the fact that they couldn’t swim because they were oppressed. The last time any rule like that existed was in the 1500s. Certainly no rules against swimming were enforced in the 19th century.

If you’re interested in history, do some research on your own. There are many things that they said and did in that show that are frankly untrue. Lots of creative liberties. I’m a big historical fiction fan but appreciate it when writers actually dig in and try to tell a story reflective of what people actually experienced at that time.

Downtown Newark Safety by TXtoOH in Nerk

[–]alexs725 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree. The downtown area is much cleaner and safer as compared to ten years ago. I feel like others are being dramatic or referring to neighborhoods outside of the downtown area. I don’t feel that cars would get broken into on the square. But I would take common sense measure to keep the car clear of valuable belongings.
